This ➡️ video is what the training and mindset is all about 🧩

This beautiful rider has worked extremely hard on all the training, float loading and her personal growth in confidence to FINALLY take her horse off her home property for the first time in years 👏👏 to ride at another place with strange horses and new people.

What’s is so significant about this? 🤔

😎 this is a huge deal for this rider and something that is extremely important to her and has been a huge goal for the longest time.

✅ the rider DID THE WORK
✅ stepped outside her comfort zone
✅ engaged her support crew
✅ trusted herself, her training and her horse
✅ exceeded her own expectations
✅ had FUN 😁

Thanks to Charmaine for the kind use of her lovely property, her time and kindness to share the space with Banana pony and accompany Scarlett and Devine for a wander down the drive after a great ridden session in the arena.

Also big shout out to Devine for keeping her head together when the resident horses did a number of laps of the paddock at speed (was terribly exciting apparently 🤣) when we arrived.

So impressed with this pair! They did not miss a beat 🙏

Having a sound plan is part of the success - this includes horse training, support and mindset.

You don’t need to do this alone, find your support crew - you may be surprised at what you can achieve!

What a week!

We hosted two groups this week - our first group came for some R & R with a couple of lovely horses to enjoy the facilities and the beautiful east coast. I get to meet some amazing people here!

The second group came for the weekend to do some training, expand their boundaries and have a great time with like minded people. The ladies had a load of fun and really made the most of all the equestrian options the farm has to offer - indoor arena, obstacles and the farm trails, quite a jam packed weekend!

There is something for everyone here - if you are looking for a getaway to the beautiful east coast where you can bring you horse, or would like to access some training or just come and ride in a quiet private setting, Brook Cottage may be the place for you.

Finding common ground 🤔

In our journey with our horses, we come across many varied opinions on how we should be doing things.

There is SO much information ℹ️ out there - it can be overwhelming! How do we decide what is right?

I have a set of very clear principles that guide my equestrian and life path and I am thankful for the clarity this brings. I also know that being open minded enough to evaluate new information is definitely a skill, particularly if it appears to be in conflict with what we already believe - a skill that needs practice 🧐

I am working hard to be better at this 🤞and find the common ground - we can always learn something from everyone if we take the time to listen and consider.

I have been very fortunate in my journey with my young horse to have a number of people appear seemingly just at the right time ⏰ to help me along the way ✅

These have been visitors to the farm that have very generously offered their time and skills to help me along the way, how lucky am I?

Support can be a little scarce when you are isolated so being open to all perspectives is really important for progress.

The common ground appears when we are open enough to listen, evaluate and consider these sometimes alternative ideas - no strings attached!

You may just be surprised by how much common ground there is - if you take the time to look 👀

This week I have added some under saddle rides, first trot and first group outing for Pandora.

🙏 thanks to all the lovely people who have helped me achieve this without having to leave home.

Denise, Morgan, Ian, Angie, Lou & Pip. Great week!

Mindset 🧘

I want to share this small clip of a lovely combination finding their groove - what changed for them? 🤔

It’s wasn’t some magical epiphany or mystical new technique, it was mindset!

This is a sensitive, green horse and a very capable rider who just needed the right mindset to do her thing - she already had the skills and had put a lot of time into her groundwork and preparation. ✅

The final piece of the puzzle was her mindset 🧩

Awesome rider, awesome horse 🐎 now having fun, and that’s what it’s all really about 😁

Guess what happens when you show up for your horse, and do your homework??

You get fantastic results!

Angie’s horse was stalling approaching the float, moving off her line and not loading easily.

We looked at the lead forward aids, turn and slowing signals - cleared up any confusion and problem solved.

This was trained initially at home before asking for this behaviour in a new environment.

This video shows Shari loading at a new location - this is “proof” training, anywhere/any time - and not only does Shari load easily, there was only one repetition required with a little more guidance before she could load calmly without support.

https://youtu.be/pthDz03i9ug?feature=shared

This is was good training is all about:

✅ identify any deficiencies in the basic responses of go/stop/turn

✅ re-train these to be clear, calm and relaxed

✅ test these responses in a new context, in this case loading on to the float

✅ start this training in an environment the horse is comfortable in before testing in more challenging places

Methodical training done extremely well!!

Super job Angie and Shari, thanks for allowing me to share your success. 🥇

If you want to know more about this easy to follow process, send me a message 😊

Working Equitation

I recently completed an online working equitation challenge series held by a group called Equus Training, which is a UK based organisation.

This involved riding 10 working equitation obstacles each month over a 3 month period. These were submitted via video and I received back a test sheet with feedback after each month. The obstacles were judged according to each riders home countries rules with entries from USA, GB, Canada and Australia.

I have always enjoyed using obstacles to assist with my training and this was a great way to test myself and get some great feedback. I really enjoyed the series and would encourage anyone who enjoys this type of training and discipline to explore online competition options… particularly in this time of high fuel prices!

Poppy and I were successful in winning this challenge series 😇😁 and learning some new things along the way.

I am very proud of this little horse of mine and thankful for the training that equitation science has given me - clear, evidence based training that is non-discipline specific. 😎

Oh and I won a cool prize…..

I now have a booking app that I am trialling - please bear with me as we work through any bugs 🐛🫣 see link at the bottom of the post.

The app will ask for contact details and a card to secure the booking (although I believe it won’t charge unless prompted, I am unable to turn this off currently) I am happy for current payment arrangements, I would like to minimise the admin if possible. Please reach out if this is an issue for you and I can manually book the appointment.

I will be in contact if I need to adjust any bookings asap.

TRAVEL
I have made an allowance of 30 minutes travel between appointments, if you are booking and are unsure if your location falls outside this time frame, please give me a call or send a text (0400692208). The process will evolve 🤞

Travel cost
As fuel costs significantly increase with the war in Iran, there may be a fuel surcharge required, or a complete rethink 😬 I am fully aware that this may make things unaffordable and while I will do my best to minimise these costs I just can’t absorb them. This coming weekend will not incur any additional charges but I can’t guarantee further ahead unfortunately - we will just need to “watch this space”.

Thank you for your patience while I try and introduce a more streamlined system. I would encourage regular bookings if you want to secure a particular time or day on a more regular basis.

April is already quite busy:
Easter is booked at Cranbrook,
There will be availability: Monday 13th - Tuesday 14th Friday 24th - Saturday 25th

If you would like to organise a group day, find a location and grab some friends to minimise travel, optimise learning and have some fun with a private lesson, social lunch (with some interesting theory) and a group activity after lunch. Numbers are capped to 5 maximum to ensure you get the most from your time and $. Give me a call to discuss.

If you need something outside of the available dates - I have opportunities at Cranbrook for private lessons or small private clinics (max 3 participants), new less expensive rider accommodation, no minimum night stay - pics coming soon!

😮‍💨 so much……

Happy Riding 🐎
