Meet Frankie! 🐾

This tiny little Italian Greyhound came in for his vaccination and was quite possibly the cutest little patient we’ve had in our hands! 🥹

Frankie was so teeny, he practically fit in the palm of our hands. 🥰

Safe to say, we were all a little bit obsessed! 💚

Bird flu is making headlines, so Better Homes & Gardens asked Greencross Vets what it means for our pets.

Greencross Vets veterinarian Dr Nina shares practical advice to help pet parents understand the risks and take simple precautions.

“Bird flu can infect all mammals, so dogs, cats, rabbits and ferrets can all be infected.”

From avoiding contact with sick or dead wildlife to keeping cats indoors and dogs on a leash around wildlife, a few simple steps can help reduce exposure.

🖤 A majestic visitor who never should have needed a trip to the vet.

This beautiful black swan was found with a fishing hook stuck in its mouth - a painful and completely preventable injury caused by discarded fishing gear.

Removing the hook required a general anaesthetic, along with pain relief to keep this feathered patient comfortable while we treated them. 🦢

A reminder to all anglers: please take your fishing line, hooks and tackle home with you or use a designated disposal bin. The Victorian Fisheries Authority advises that old fishing line should be placed in bins, or if there are no bins available, taken home, cut up and disposed of in general waste. Their Seal the Loop program also provides dedicated bins for unwanted fishing line, hooks, netting and rope. (VFA)

Discarded fishing gear can cause entanglement, injury and even death to wildlife. A few extra seconds to dispose of your gear properly can make a huge difference. 💔

🎣 Fish responsibly. Dispose responsibly. Protect our wildlife. A big thanks for the wildlife careers for bringing this amazing swan in and thanks to our team for helping 🫶🏼

🐦⚠️ BIRD FLU WARNING ⚠️🐦

With avian influenza (bird flu) a concern in Victoria, we’re taking extra precautions to protect our patients, wildlife, clients and veterinary team. 💚

If you find a sick or dead wild bird:

❌ Avoid touching or moving the bird wherever possible.
📍 Take note of the location, species and number of birds affected.
📞 Report suspected cases to DEECA via the Emergency Animal Disease Hotline: 1800 675 888.

In Victoria, please report 5 or more sick or dead wild birds, or even one sick or dead seabird, waterbird, shorebird or bird of prey.

If handling a bird is unavoidable, please wear appropriate PPE, including gloves and a mask, and avoid touching your face.

🐾 Bringing a bird to our clinic?
Please call us BEFORE entering the clinic. This allows our team to put appropriate infection-control measures in place and keep other patients and staff safe.

Thank you for helping us protect our community, wildlife and pets. 🐦💚

Dr. Sophie Putland was a daughter, a sister, a friend, and a beloved veterinarian, who tragically took her own life in 2021.

Her story reminds us of the quiet pressures many veterinary staff carry while caring for our animals every day.

Please always remember veterinary staff are people too. We understand there can be other things going on in life on top of the reason you might bring your pet in for an appointment. We are here to help your animal in the best way possible.

You never know what kind of day someone is having. A moment of patience, understanding and kindness can make a meaningful difference.

🐾 Patient of the Week: Ricco! 🦷💚
Ricco came in for his dental procedure, but his pre-anaesthetic blood tests showed some slight abnormalities — so we pressed pause to keep him safe 🩺

After a follow-up heart ultrasound (echo), we confirmed everything was normal and he was safe to proceed with his dental. Taking extra precautions like blood testing and additional diagnostics helps us tailor anaesthesia to each patient and reduce risks as much as possible.

Safety always comes first — and Ricco was a superstar every step of the way! 🌟🐶

Call us on 03 5911 5622 to find out more about preanaesthetic bloods and the benefits these can have!

🐾 Patient of the Week: Lancelot! 💉🐶✨

Handsome little Lancelot popped in for his final puppy vaccination and was an absolute champ 💚

Vaccinations are essential for both puppies and adult dogs, helping protect against serious and potentially life-threatening diseases like parvovirus, distemper and hepatitis. Keeping vaccinations up to date maintains strong immunity, reduces the spread of disease in the community, and helps keep dogs healthy at every life stage 🐕🐾

Well done, Lancelot — officially protected and ready for all the adventures ahead! 🥰✨
