Oops, we’ve fallen behind on our staff profiles. Next up we have Reinder.

Reinder is a Frisian veterinarian with an impressive knack for both animals and adventurous hobbies. After graduating from the prestigious Utrecht University, his skills were further honed during an internship at the renowned Goulburn Valley Equine Hospital in Victoria. After some years working abroad and down south, Reinder migrated north and joined the Cooroora Vet team in 2023.

Not only does he handle horses like a pro, but he also handles the chaos of being a father to two energetic boys with grace (and perhaps a little bit of patience). When he’s not saving the day for four-legged friends, you can find Reinder kitesurfing—because nothing says “I’m a Dutchman” like mastering the art of navigating both the wind and water, travelling, or training for the Noosa tri. Reinder’s passion for both veterinary care and extreme sports keeps life interesting, one wave or horse at a time!

Next up we have Theresa.

Growing up in a farming family and being a vet’s daughter, Theresa developed a strong love for all animals from a very young age. In fact, she was put in the saddle and on the back of cows before she could walk.

Despite having a passion for all things great and small, Theresa decided to pursue a career in Business Management which she studied at the Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane. After working in Retail Management for 8 years, Theresa was given the opportunity to put her 2 passions; animals and management together and join the Cooroora Veterinary Clinic in 2019 as Practice Manager.

Outside of work you’ll find Theresa travelling the world, camping up the beach or in the outback, out in the backyard with the animals or foraging in the veggie patch, spending time with friends and family, or enjoying a good gin!

Next we have Sally.

Sally was born and raised here on the Sunny Coast, living in Nambour with her partner Jacob and her fur baby Kiba, a very lively and very hairy husky. Sally is definitely the nerd of the clinic, outside of work she enjoys videogames, VR, Anime and Web comics.

Sally started vet nursing in 2019 in Brisbane where she completed her Cert III. She then moved back to the coast and has been working here at Cooroora since 2022. Sally absolutely loves nursing and can’t see herself doing anything else. Just being around the other staff here inspires Sally as she learns so much from everyone here. Sally’s passion is mostly with the small animals and exotics but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t enjoy a bit of large animal work too.

Next we have Shane.

Shane graduated from the University of Queensland in 1994. He first worked in mixed practice in Allora on the Darling Downs for 2 1/2 years. Moving to the coast then allowed him to be closer to family and to receive the professional support of a larger practice.

Even though he continued to see all animal species it became clear that small animal surgery brought Shane the most enjoyment. A couple of years of further study and a set of examinations in 2003 allowed Shane to a become a member of the Australia New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists by examination in Small Animal Surgery. Regular visits to specialist centres helps Shane to bring new surgical techniques back to the practice.

Shane considers himself fortunate to have two wonderful children, a dog, a cat, five chickens and one fish. His hobbies include squash, touch footy, sailing and building / gardening projects around the yard.

Next we have Danielle.

Danielle graduated from the University of Queensland in 1997 with a Bachelor of Veterinary Science with Honours, and a Bachelor of Veterinary Biology with Distinction. During her final year at university Danielle spent time working at Cooroora and felt that this would be her dream job, so she was delighted to join our wonderful team in 2017.

Over the previous decades Danielle enjoyed expanding and consolidating her experience working in small animal, equine and mixed practice in Brisbane and in England. Danielle has special interests in emergency, general and preventative medicine and in optimising the health of our pets by addressing underlying causes of chronic ill health.

Danielle holds a Graduate Diploma in Veterinary Western Herbal Medicine, undertaken over two years of formal study, and is excited to be able to offer the additional service of animal naturopathy and veterinary medical herbalism for clients who are seeking this approach. Danielle has a balanced and holistic perspective, and can draw from the strengths of both complimentary and western medical systems of healing. She is passionate about integrating the best of these to achieve optimal outcomes for her patients.

Danielle loves living in the Hinterland with her two wonderful boys along with 7 miniature cows, 6 horses, 4 chooks, 3 dogs, 1 cat and 1 snake. They divide their time between caring for the land, horseback adventures in the forests and hills around home, and exploring our spectacular coastline and beaches.

Our next profile is for Cameron.

Cam joined the Cooroora family just before Christmas in 2003 after graduating from the University of Qld. He initially started at the clinic doing both small and large animals, however demand and his own interest has seen his days filled with his favoured areas.

Cam finds dentistry of horses to be very rewarding due to the rapid improvement in a patients well being and performance which makes for happy owners and riders. In 2012 Cam was admitted as a member of the Australian & New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists by examination in Equine Dentistry. Next up we have Kelly.

Kelly joined the Cooroora Vet team in November 2022. After working with race horses for many years, Kelly decided she wanted to pursue her passion - helping sick/injured horses, which she now has the privilege of doing out at our equine facility. Kelly loves that every day is different, every day is a learning day, and you never know what could come through the front gate.

Kelly and her husband have a farm with a large fur family that is always expanding to animals in need of some extra love. When Kelly isn’t at work she’ll be outside catching up on farm jobs, riding her horses, brushing her pet cows, exploring trails with the dogs and having a go at some photography.

Hi everyone,

As we welcome a lot of new clients to the area and new team members, we thought it would be a good time to reintroduce ourselves.

We are a family owned & run mixed veterinary practice which has been operating in Cooroy for more than 65 years, the last 25+ being with the current owner. The practice has become the largest mixed practice on the Sunshine Coast, operating 6 days a week as well as offering an after hours service for horse and farm animals.

Our mission is to provide high quality affordable veterinary care with compassion, competence and collaboration. We pride ourselves on our team approach to problem solving and achieving results and we aim to develop strong relationships with our clients and patients.

We can be contacted on 07 5447 6733 during business hours, or on 0418 762 007 if it is after hours.

Over the coming weeks, we will be introducing a different team member, but to kick things off we have our newest team member, Sascha!

————————

After graduating from the University of Queensland with a Bachelor of Veterinary Science (Hons) in 2018, Sascha completed a rotating internship with Veterinary Specialist Services in Carrara where she enjoyed the fast-paced environment and developed a particular interest in the management of medical cases. Since then, Sascha has worked in a mix of general practice, specialist practice and most recently in emergency. Sascha is passionate about providing quality medical care to patients in their time of need.

In 2022, Sascha completed a Graduate Certificate in Small Animal Emergency and Critical Care, and in 2024 was admitted as a member of the Australian College of Veterinary Scientists by examination in Small Animal Medicine.

Growing up on the Sunshine Coast, Sascha has recently returned where she has now joined the Cooroora Vet Clinic team. Outside of work, Sascha enjoys spending time at the beach, exploring, and with her many pets.
