Meet Tilly 💕 Tilly is a little rescue dog who suddenly became unwell a few weeks ago. She was rushed to CARE and tests showed that she had gas in her gallbladder and liver - which is definitely NOT a normal finding. Dr Guy performed surgery and removed her gallbladder. Her diagnosis was emphysematous cholecystitis due to a Clostridial infection - a bacteria that produce gas! She is home and completely back to normal now, sans gallbladder!! Images: 1. Meet Porcini! 🐶 At only 12 weeks of age, this tiny chihuahua already has a big appetite! You know how you shouldn’t eat anything bigger than your head? Tough advice to follow when you are this little. Porcini tackled a dental treat—which is good, but Porcini… remember they are for chewing. This time this one went down kinda whole, as you can see on the X-ray. With the greatest delicacy, Porcini was anaesthetised, and the offending treat was able to be removed via endoscope. She was quick up and at ‘em again, her lust for life restored, making friends all around the hospital. The Elephant is her spirit animal we think 🤗🐾💙✨

Nala arrived at CARE on Sunday because she had been vomiting A LOT over the weekend. A quick ultrasound and an Xray revealed the most likely cause 🎾🎾🎾🎾. Dr Kaitlyn performed surgery to remove the culprit and now Nala is heading home with a souvenir 😉😝

In a powerful interview with Channel 9 News, Dr. Christine Lovett from the Center for Animal Referral and Emergency in Collingwood discusses the urgent need for blood donations from our furry friends. 🐶🐱

Just like humans, pets can face serious health challenges like trauma, illness, or infections, requiring life-saving blood transfusions. Unfortunately, there is no national blood bank for pets, and supplies are running critically low across the state. 🌟

We rely on community volunteers to help keep our pet blood banks stocked and ensure that every pet in need can receive the blood they require. 💉

✨ How Can You Help?
If your pet is healthy, enjoys visits to the vet, and meets certain criteria (age, weight, and no long-term medication), they could be the perfect donor! Your furry family member could literally save another pet’s life. 🐕🐈

We heartily thank Tilly’s parents for supporting our mission. 🙏 Are you curious about how your own pet might join our lifesaving journey? 🐾 Prospective donors must meet a few requirements—love coming to the vets (see Tilly for an example 😉), healthy (we will do a few tests to check), as well as a couple of other requirements. Our Story

The Centre for Animal Referral and Emergency (CARE) is a veterinary specialist and 24-hour emergency centre, situated in Collingwood by Melbourne's CBD. CARE provides gold-standard specialist and emergency veterinary care to the pets of Melbourne.

Services offered include: - Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and emergency centre, staffed 24 hours a day / 365 days a year. - Specialists in surgery, internal medicine, neurology, radiology, and emergency & critical care. - Advanced patient monitoring. - Diagnostic imaging, incl. digital X-rays, ultrasound, and CT scanning. - In-house laboratory.

Our objective is to provide diagnostic and treatment plans which will help achieve the best possible outcomes for each case. We consider the unique requirements of each individual pet, their owners and their primary care veterinarian.

Specialists We have grown rapidly to a large group that includes eight specialists. The specialists referral team encompasses surgery, medicine, emergency and critical care, diagnostic imaging and neurology. We accept referrals Monday to Friday during business hours for our referral services.
