After listening to the community and the Local Government sector, I am pleased to let the community know that the Cook Labor Government will amend the Cat Act to enable local governments to make and enforce local laws regarding cat containment.

Currently, the Cat Act provides local governments with important tools to manage cats, including prohibiting them from specific public places, addressing nuisance behaviour, and enforcing sterilisation, microchipping and registration.

Our government has already made a start on the amendments to the Cat Act and I anticipate introducing the Amendment Bill in 2026.

If passed, the reforms will provide a framework for local laws which promote responsible cat ownership including cat containment - empowering individual councils to engage with their communities on these issues.

Free Cat Desexing available again! Please call or sms 0431919584 to find out more.

Have you heard cats calling or fighting in your neighbourhood? Is your cat? With kitten season impending NOW is the time to desex your cat.

Desexing, also known as spreying or neutering, is a surgical procedure that renders a cat unable to reproduce, offering both health and behavioral benefits. It's a routine and safe procedure performed by a veterinarian, involving the removal of reproductive organs. For females, this means removing the uterus and ovaries (spaying), and for males, the testicles (castration).

I didn’t think she could get out….
I didn’t think they would mate, they are brother and sister…. There are no other cats in my area…. She is only 3 months old, I thought she would be too young…..

These are all too common stories 😢 Let us help, let us desex your cat for free!

If you have purchased a kitten from a rescue that has not already been desexed PLEASE insist that they desexed BEFORE it is 6 months old and BEFORE is has the opportunity to reproduce. 🙏🙏🙏 Desexing saves lives.

It’s a sad day for us at Southern Ports as we mourn the loss of a dear friend of our Port of Bunbury – Marley the Dingo.

Marley had been rescued as a young pup in the Pilbara, before he moved to the South West with his new family and eventually moved to a little boat in Bunbury where he became a familiar resident at our Outer Harbour.

For the past 12 years Marley had become such a loved and important member of our port community and our hearts have been warmed by all the stories that have been shared about Marley so far this morning.

As we wrap our arms around our team, Marine Rescue Bunbury and all the community members whose lives were made brighter by Marley’s presence, we’d love for you to continue sharing your memories and photos 👇

Marley may be gone, but never forgotten. Rest in Peace Marley 🖤

Big shout out to Dr Hannah and the team at Lockyer Ave Vet Hospital for their continued support which has enabled us to help so many animals and their people. Hannah is relatively new at Lockyer Vets but LOVES kitty cats and has a special interest in feline medicine. Hannah is often found with one of our babies in her arms. This pic is of Hannah and the beautiful Mr Darcy (now adopted).

Despite our ongoing sterilisation programs we are still getting 100s of kittens accidentally born each year. With the warmer weather has resulted in a longer kitten “season” than normal, and kittens are still flowing. Mumma cats falling pregnant as soon as 4 weeks after giving birth. Kittens as young as 4 months old falling pregnant- sometimes to their brothers 🫣 This is why we ensure all kittens are desexed BEFORE they are rehomed.

Please desex as earlier as possible. We can offer financial assistance if that is a barrier.
Please contain your cats- this also keeps them safe from cars, dogs, cat fights, disease and many other misshapes.

We have a stunning litter of black kittens that will be available in the coming weeks looking for anyone able to offer a responsible cat loving home.

A man and woman in Albany have been fined more than$12,000 after their dog mauled a 64-year-old woman.

The Albany Magistrates Court heard the woman was walking past the McKail address in March when she was rushed by the mastiff, sustaining puncture wounds, before a passing driver scared off the dog.

The court was told the attack had a lasting impact on the woman who now carries a stick and personal security device when out walking.

In sentencing Magistrate Erin O'Donnell said neither Donald Sydney John Woods or Kayla Jean Woods had showed no remorse for the attack.

An order was made for the dog to be euthanised.
