As a lifelong animal lover, this is not an easy post to share โ but it is an important one.
The video shown (originally shared by a snake relocator on the Sunshine Coast) shows a large carpet python after consuming a pet cat. There are no graphic details shown, but it highlights a very real risk that outdoor roaming cats can face here in Australia.
This isnโt about blame.
This isnโt about fear-mongering.
And itโs definitely not about judging anyoneโs choices.
Snakes are native wildlife, and large pythons are powerful predators. When cats are allowed to roam โ especially at dawn, dusk, or overnight โ encounters like this can and do happen. Sadly, itโs not as rare as many people think.
I share this with a heavy heart, because no one wants to lose a beloved pet this way. And I myself have lost pet birds in the far past due to my own diligence in ensuring they were secure from the dangers of wildlife.
At Feathers Fur & Scales, everything we do is about keeping cats safe while still allowing them to enjoy the outdoors. Secure cat enclosures give cats fresh air, sunshine, stimulation โ without exposing them to predators, cars, poison, dogs, or getting lost.
If this post makes you uncomfortable, thatโs completely understandable. Please know it comes from a place of care, not shock value. My goal is simply awareness โ and hopefully preventing another family from experiencing this kind of loss.
If youโd like to chat about safe outdoor options for your cat, or just want advice, Iโm always happy to help. ๐
Because our cats deserve protection, not risk.
