Coburg Aquarium is the largest leading aquarium in Australia. Coburg Aquarium is a family business that has been in operation for over 30 years.

Starting locally in Coburg in the 1970s by the Long family, Coburg Aquarium has grown into Australia’s premier Aquarium store. While Coburg Aquarium, was purchased by the Kirby family in 2007, we have retained most of the staff, processes and customer service values that the Long family instilled into the business over many years.

🐟Freshwater Species Review 🐟
Cherry shrimp are a fantastic addition to freshwater aquariums. They’re peaceful, easy to care for, and help keep tanks clean by eating algae and leftover food. Their bright red color adds vibrancy and visual appeal. These shrimp thrive in well-maintained tanks with stable parameters and plenty of hiding spots. Ideal for beginners and experienced aquarists alike, cherry shrimp also breed easily, making them a rewarding and sustainable choice for any setup.

💡 Team Tip: Avoid the use of copper based treatments if invertebrates are present in the tank.
🧪 Care Level: Beginner
📏 Size: Up to 3-4 cm
🌡️ Temperature: 18–28°C
⚖️ pH Range: 6.8-7.5
🐠 Tank Size: Minimum 30 litres +

🐟Freshwater Species Review 🐟
Also known at the Dwarf Cichlid, the Nanochromis Transvestitus is found in the Congo River. Known for its dramatic sexual dimorphism, the females are brighter than males, which is not commonly the case in cichlids. This species is not frequently found in aquarium shops, which makes this new arrival at Coburg Aquarium an exciting find!

💡 Team Tip: The dwarf cichlid enjoys more acidic water parameters, natural driftwood will help you maintain conditions.
🧪 Care Level: Intermediate
📏 Size: Up to 6 cm
🌡️ Temperature: 24–27°C
⚖️ pH Range: 5.5-6.5
🐠 Tank Size: Minimum 60 litres +

🐟 Tank Mate Thursday! 🐡
Looking for compatible tank mates in your Tanganyikan setup? Lamprologus similis and Julidochromis species make a smart pairing. Both thrive in hard, alkaline water and share similar dietary needs, though their differing habitats, shell dwellers vs. rock dwellers, help minimize territory disputes. With proper space and structure, these cichlids coexist peacefully, offering dynamic behavior and stunning visuals.

🐟Freshwater Species Review 🐟
The classic rummynose tetra is even better as an albino! They lack pigmentation and some display splashes of red on the face in true rummynose fashion. Although sensitive to changes in water parameters, this popular tetra is a standout for planted aquariums. Feeding on flake and small pellets, they are an affordable addition to your small to midsize tanks and are compatible with other small peaceful species that enjoy softer water conditions. So next time your on the search for a new shoaling species, consider the albino variety of the rummynose tetra, you won't be dissapointed.

💡 Team Tip: Keep in groups of 6 or more - these guys are a shoaling species

📏 Size: Up to 4.5 cm
🌡️ Temperature: 23–27°C
