SP JOYRIDE
Quality 16hh, 5-year-old Thoroughbred mare.
They broke the mould when they made this fire breathing chestnut mare… because Peaches is anything but. True to both her stable name and registered name, she is as sweet, genuine and joyful as they come.
Peaches retired sound after a very short lived racing career, which consisted of two trials and two starts, where she made it very clear racing was not her calling, running last in all. Since then, she has enjoyed a proper let down period and has commenced her post racing education, proving herself to be a lovely, versatile young mare.
Peaches has attended Pony Club rally days, showing beautiful manners while being ridden by a child in a group setting. She has competed at an Interschools CT competition, placing in the Top 10, and regularly attends jump club, competing up to 75cm with multiple clear rounds and minor placings.
At the start of the year, she also completed Equestriad’s Hunter Trials, jumping clear around the 65cm course after seeing cross-country fences for the first time only two days prior. She has also been used occasionally in riding lessons for intermediate riders.
Peaches is a good keeper and is happily paddocked alone or with other horses. She is used to farm machinery, dogs and small ponies. She is low maintenance, easy to catch, floats well, stands quietly for the farrier and dentist, and is easy to worm. She is EA Base registered ļæ¼
This mare will excel in a range of disciplines, whether that be Pony Club, eventing, show jumping, or as a beautiful all rounder. While she is still green, she is incredibly willing, honest, has no dirt and is keen to learn, making her a genuine pleasure to train.
Peaches is best suited to a confident intermediate rider who can continue her education and develop a partnership with a quality young horse.
Homes will be thoroughly vetted, as finding the best possible horse and rider match is incredibly important to us.

My recent post about my love for Thoroughbreds and the unjust stigma this breed continues to face, truly surprised me with the overwhelmingly positive response. I read every single comment, and loved hearing about your horses.
It seems so many of you share not only my passion and frustration, but also a genuine love and respect for the breed.
It got me thinking… where to from here?
Maybe, just maybe, the tides are starting to change. But real change requires action, not just intention.
I believe one of the biggest disservices we can do to the breed as a community is focusing solely on the minority of horses who struggle with the transition, rather than the majority who absolutely thrive.
I have always tried to train by the philosophy that if the horse doesn’t understand, it is our job to make ourselves understood. Every horse, regardless of breed, requires time, patience, education, and correct training to reach its full potential. But for the Thoroughbred, that investment often pays you back tenfold.
Which brings me to this…

šŸŽ Thoroughbred lovers

ā–ŖļøWhat changes need to be made?
ā–ŖļøHow do we challenge the negativity still associated with the breed?
ā–ŖļøWhat are the best ways to showcase the versatility of OTTBs to people who may be hesitant about ownership?
ā–ŖļøIs there enough support available for those transitioning horses off the track?

And for those who have never owned a Thoroughbred or perhaps wouldn’t consider one I would genuinely love to hear from you too šŸ™šŸ»

ā–ŖļøWhat puts you off the breed?
ā–ŖļøWhat concerns do you have?
ā–ŖļøWhy wouldn’t you consider a Thoroughbred?

There is absolutely no judgement here. In fact, I’d love the opportunity to better understand those perspectives and maybe even change a few minds along the way 🤭
Please keep all discussions respectful and constructive.
I’ll be sharing more OTTB stories, retraining insights, and training tips over the coming weeks, but I’m genuinely excited to continue this conversation.

There are some successes that carry a little more weight. It’s not always an easy journey, especially with the quirky horses, but this is a horse I genuinely love riding.
There have been plenty of moments where I’ve second guessed myself and wondered if Brando and I would ever make it to an ODE. But patience and persistence have a way of paying off.
Brando finished his first ever event at Equestriad, adding just 0.4 penalties to his dressage score to place 7th in the EVA65A, proof that sometimes the long road is the one worth taking.
As always, it takes a village, and I’m so grateful to have such a strong support system. Thank you to my incredible friends, my super coach for putting up with all of our nonsense, and my wonderful sponsors and who have backed B-Boy and I every step of the way 🄹 šŸ–¤

Our first Camden Dressage done for the year and what a day it was for the team!
A special mention to Harper and her young horse SP Zephyr Song stepping out for his very first competition. He handled it like a pro, scoring 64% in the Prep 1 for 5th, and backing it up with 65% in the Prep 2 for 6th. A super foundation to build on, very proud of the work she has put into Zee post racing.
Bluff N Bluster also made his competition debut and didn’t disappoint: 68.3% in the Prep 1 to take 2nd, and 66% in the Prep 2 for 3rd. An exciting start to his post racing career and plenty to look forward to, I am very much enjoying this horse.
Harper then jumped on SP Royalty Boy for the Prelim classes in the lead up to Equestriad, and in a very competitive field of 30, they produced some beautiful work. 8th in the Prelim 1:1 with 67%, and then stepping it up to take the win in the Prelim 1:2 with a fantastic 73%. A great confidence boost for them heading into the weekend.
Couldn’t be happier with how all three horses are progressing as we continue building towards Equimillion 2026.
A huge thank you, as always, to our incredible sponsors Horseland Narellan and Kelato Animal Health. Your ongoing support plays such a big role behind the scenes, from ensuring our horses are fitted out in the best gear and tack, to keeping them feeling and performing at their absolute best with quality nutrition and care. We are so grateful to have you in our corner.
Onwards and upwards from here šŸš€

There’s a quiet kind of education that comes from growing up on the back of many different horses, and it’s one that can’t be taught through a single partnership alone.
Even if half of those opportunities came from shamelessly stealing your mum’s rides šŸ™„šŸ˜‚
Harper pictured here on my beautiful Choisir gelding, Royalty, at the last Hara Equine Comp.
Thanks Georgia Young Photography for the memories šŸ“ø

Peaches šŸ‘ proving once again just how versatile and willing a thoroughbred can be.
I’m a little behind on the posting but she picked up 6th place in the 65cm at the last HARA Equine competition with a beautiful clear round ✨
And the best part? This lovely girl is only just getting started…
Peaches will be coming up for sale soon
If you’ve been looking for a genuine, straightforward Thoroughbred to have fun on and be competitive with, she might just be your perfect match 🤩

I recently came across a post on social media that I found quite unsettling, a sentiment that resurfaces far too often and speaks to a deep misunderstanding of thoroughbreds. The post insinuated that the breed is not worth much, are money pits and casually dismissed them as nothing special.

This attitude is not new, but it is one I find and have always found deeply frustrating. Having worked with, owned, and loved thoroughbreds for over 30 years, I am familiar with the unfavourable stigma that unfairly follows the breed, particularly with transitioning to a life after racing. This stigma paints them with a broad brush of difficulty, instability, high maintenance and people not willing to consider them when looking for a new mount.

A few of the most common misconceptions I personally have been confronted with include:

Thoroughbreds are not child friendly and have no place in pony club. This implies they are too erratic or sensitive for young, developing riders, a notion that can be refuted by the countless thoroughbreds excelling in junior equestrian programs across the country.

They are hot horses and only for experienced riders. While some may be more sensitive than others, this is not a trait exclusive to thoroughbreds only. Temperament is a combination of breeding, training, and handling. A thoroughbred’s racing energy does not define their entire personality.

They are too broken to amount to anything post racing. This is perhaps the most offensive and untrue statement. It reduces years of dedicated care and training and peak athleticism to a single, negative outcome. They are one of the most successful sport horse breeds in the world, they are athletes retiring from one discipline, ready to be channeled into another.

Harper and I have both been confronted with breed prejudice personally, often by people who have not even experienced the breed.

I have had countless thoroughbreds go on to win multiple awards of excellence post racing. They have carried my child safely around a showjumping ring or cross country course. They KINDLY tolerate learner riders who make learner mistakes, and be ever so forgiving of it.

My first horse, a thoroughbred, brought me years of joy, with my ill fitted tack, inability to see a distance, and lack of education. He carted me for miles safely down the Todd River in Alice Springs and home again through dust storms before mobile phones were a thing.

Watch a race. Watch their power. Their speed. Their athleticism. Their willingness to give everything. Watch them handle the intensity of race day, the pressure, the noise of the barriers, the roar of the crowd, and then walk back composed, focused, and trainable.

They are not expendable. They are an investment. Intelligent, athletic, trainable, sensitive and above all, willing. This is why I advocate so strongly for this breed. Because with thoughtful retraining, their career doesn't end on the track, it begins again.

They are not just a racehorse….They are Thoroughbreds.
