Queenie, a beautiful standard Bullterrier came for her last one-on-one session. Such big changes. Today we worked on clicker training. This is where handlers need to learn so much - timing, food delivery technique, reward placement, single rewards or jackpots.... Queenie loved it. From a dog who was totally disengaged, to the Queenie who was totally engaged, working hard to find the solution to be successful. She loved every moment spent working with her handlet. She did not disengage. She wanted to please. What more can we ask for? 💙💜🩵

This beautiful white shepherd lady is Harper. Harper's handler only recently adopted her and was struggling with reactivity on her walks. Reactivity towards other dogs can have many reasons. In Harper's case it was because she had grown up with another dog and has taken on a few bad habits from him. It appeared she had not been walked alone and was lacking confidence by herself. I cannot say how impressed I was with her new handler's dedication. Harper and her mate - they were adopted together ❤️ - are now being walked separately. This is so important for Harper to grow confidence on her own. Here you can see Harper walking near the decoy dog, relaxed and engaged with her handler.

Rosie, a cattle dog cross, came to training with me, because she has shown reactivity towards other dogs. Walking a dog like her can be stressful when it should be relaxing and joyful. After doing some private training sessions, where I could see some rapid improvement, we took Rosie out for a walk in public. Can I say how wonderful she was? Her handlers invested time and effort into changing her behaviour and it all paid off 👏 ❤️

Training in a group environment builds life skills. Can your dog stay focused on you? Can your dog maintain his position with other dogs walking by? Can your dog maintain his position with other dogs being recalled? Working in a small group I can focus on each handler and work at the level they are at.

The competition season has started. I am so very proud that both, Shelby and her daughter Ninja, have achieved their Rally Grand Champion title in their first trial in April. They are the first dogs north of Brisbane to gain this title, fantastic achievement, with both girls getting 1st and 2nd place at both Rally comps. Shelby is 13 years old and still one of the best. The young girl, Mazikeen, also qualifying in Rally and CD, gaining lots of experience on her way to be in her grandmother's foot steps. Belgian Malinois need to work, and these girls love every minute.

How cute is Rex? This fluffy German Shepherd puppy came to start on the basic skills to becoming a well behaved family dog. Working dogs need structure and training right from the beginning 😀

Riley was back for his second private session. Shelby was helping me as decoy dog... look how well Riley is doing. Not only is he obviously enjoying working with his handler, he is not really interested in Shelby. That is what I call a super job 👏

This lovely Malinois girl is currently in the shelter looking for a forever home. She sure is a working dog and needs an experienced handler, but no puppy or teenage issues to worry about. Welcome her into your home and she will repay you with the affection and loyalty this breed is known for. Her name is Ivy ❤️

Group training last night had a new team join training. When all the dogs in class know each other, are familiar with their behaviours, then a change is always a little unsettling for all parties. I was really pleased with how all the teams settled in and worked really well.

Queenie was back, and I noticed quite a difference in the way she responded to her handler. We often get frustrated with highly excitable dog and often overlook the small steps in the right direction that the dog takes. We worked on leash handling to reduce pulling on the lead. We also introduced a decoy dog and Queenie needed to work with that. It is not easy, but we cannot forget that we often need to undo behaviours that have been rehearsed for some time. Queenie is a sweet heart and I have a soft spot for bullies 🤗
