Dr Kylie Hardwicke spent her long weekend attending an advanced equine lameness workshop alongside equine veterinarians from across Australia and NZ.
Lameness remains one of the most common reasons horses are presented for veterinary assessment, and ongoing professional development is an important part of ensuring we continue to provide the highest standard of care to our patients.
There were some excellent discussions and workshops around proximal suspensory injuries, caudal neck pain, sacroiliac pathology and many other topics along with the “ridden horse pain ethogram” which is an objective way for detecting subtle pain in ridden horses that is resulting in mild to severe behavioural changes often without obvious lameness.
We’re grateful for opportunities like these to continue learning from leading equine specialists from around the world and to bring that knowledge back to the horses and clients of Hawkesbury Equine Veterinary Centre.
A big thank you to the organisers The Equine Practice Company, The “lameness guru herself “Dr Sue Dyson”, all the specialist speakers and helpers and sponsors for a great weekend of learning.
