Most people blame the cold for a rough winter coat. The cold isn't the cause 🐾 So here's the part that catches everyone out.
The cold doesn't ruin a winter coat. Timing does.
A dog's coat is built from the inside, and the fur you can see today started forming weeks ago. Omega-3, the nutrient behind a soft, shiny coat it takes 6 to 8 weeks to reach the hair you can see.
So a dull, dry coat in July isn't about July's weather. It's a reflection of what was in the bowl back in May.
That's why it feels like it happens out of nowhere, the gap was building the whole time, somewhere you couldn't see it. And by the time it shows, the easy fix has already passed.
The flip side: what you feed this week is the coat you'll see in 6 weeks. Start in June, see it in July.
