WHAT MAKES A GOOD DOG WALKER?
Great question. I've worked as a dog walker on and off for around 6 years now. Sometimes fulltime, sometimes just here and there, sometimes with a pregnant belly or a baby strapped to my chest.
I've also had a dog for a lot of that time and hired many, many walkers and minders myself.
So here is what I look for in a dog walker:
1. They do a free meet & greet before any walking or minding happens
2. A simple but crucial one: we just get along. Trust your gut on this one, if the vibe isn't right at the meet & greet, keep looking
3. Communication - if they're running a little late either to arrive at the house or to bring pup home, there should be a text or a heads up
4. They do more than the bare minimum. To me, this always tells me if a person is in it for love or for dollars.
5. Experience. This is a tricky one, as you need to be hired to get experience. But for you new and aspiring dog walkers, it's totally possible.
For those of you keen to start your own side hustle, I teach exactly how to get that initial experience, and how to get started in my "pick my brain" sessions.
