๐Ÿ€โš ๏ธ RAT BAIT & YOUR PETS โš ๏ธ๐Ÿถ๐Ÿฑ

Rat bait can be extremely dangerous to dogs and cats, and even a small amount can cause serious illness or be fatal.

Some signs of poisoning may not appear for several days, so donโ€™t wait for symptoms if you think your pet has eaten rat bait.

๐Ÿ‘‰ Contact your vet immediately
๐Ÿ‘‰ Bring the bait packaging if you have it
๐Ÿ‘‰ Donโ€™t induce vomiting unless instructed by a veterinarian
๐Ÿ‘‰ Remember, eating a poisoned rodent can also pose a risk

โค๏ธ If youโ€™re worried your pet has been exposed, contact Charleville Vet Surgery as soon as possible.

Prevention is always better than treatment! ๐Ÿพ

๐Ÿ‘‚ Is your pet constantly scratching their ears or shaking their head? ๐Ÿถ๐Ÿฑ

Ear infections are one of the most common reasons dogs and cats visit the vet. They can be itchy, painful, and if left untreated, may lead to more serious problems or ongoing ear disease.

Keep an eye out for:
๐Ÿ‘‚ Head shaking or ear scratching
๐Ÿ‘‚ Red, swollen or painful ears
๐Ÿ‘‚ A bad smell coming from the ears
๐Ÿ‘‚ Brown, yellow or black discharge
๐Ÿ‘‚ Sensitivity when the ears are touched
๐Ÿ‘‚ Head tilting or loss of balance (in more severe cases)

Ear infections can be caused by allergies, yeast, bacteria, ear mites, grass seeds, or other underlying conditions, so it's important to have your pet's ears examined rather than treating them at home.

๐Ÿ’™ The sooner an ear infection is diagnosed and treated, the quicker your pet can get back to feeling comfortable.

If you think your dog or cat may have an ear infection, give us a call to book an appointmentโ€”we're always happy to help! ๐Ÿพ

๐Ÿพ Does your dog's paws smell like corn chips or stale popcorn? ๐ŸŒฝ๐Ÿ‘ƒ

While many people think it's "just a dog smell," that ye**ty odour can actually be a sign of a yeast overgrowth on the skin.

Yeast loves warm, moist paws, and dogs with allergies, excessive licking, or damp feet are especially prone to developing these infections. Left untreated, they can become very itchy, sore, and uncomfortable.

Keep an eye out for:
๐Ÿพ Persistent licking or chewing of the paws
๐Ÿพ Red, inflamed skin between the toes
๐Ÿพ Brown staining from saliva
๐Ÿพ A strong, musty or "corn chip" smell

The good news? Yeast infections are very treatableโ€”but it's important to identify and manage the underlying cause as well, especially if they're recurring.

If your dog's paws have become smelly, itchy, or red, book them in for a check-up. We'd be happy to help get those paws feeling comfortable again! ๐Ÿถ๐Ÿ’™

UPDATE! Rosie has found a wonderful home!
๐Ÿพ Home Wanted for Rosie ๐Ÿพ

We are helping one of our lovely clients find the perfect forever home for Rosie, a beautiful 7โ€“8-month-old puppy (born 11 December).

Rosie's dad is a Cattle Dog, and her mum is a Staffy x Dachshund. She is a bright, energetic young girl who loves walks, chasing sticks and spending time with her people. Rosie is affectionate, loyal and enjoys being part of the family.

Rosie's owners have made the incredibly difficult decision to find her a home that is better suited to her needs. Rosie can display food-related guarding behaviours, so they feel she would be happiest and safest as the only dog in the home and in a household without young children. She would thrive with an experienced dog owner who understands canine behaviour and is committed to providing ongoing training, structure and plenty of physical and mental enrichment.

Rosie will come with her favourite chew toys and is ready to find her person who can give her the guidance, patience and love she deserves.

If you think you could offer Rosie the right home, or would like more information, please contact Teegan on 0458 790 496

๐Ÿฆท Strong Teeth = A Healthier, Happier Horse! ๐Ÿด

Did you know that dental disease is one of the most common health issues seen in horses?

Regular dental examinations are essential for horses of all ages. Young horses benefit from monitoring erupting teeth and correcting developmental issues early, while older horses often require ongoing care to manage tooth wear, loose teeth and other age-related dental problems.

Signs your horse may need a dental check include:
โœ” Difficulty chewing or dropping feed
โœ” Weight loss or poor condition
โœ” Bad breath
โœ” Head tossing or resistance to the bit
โœ” Quidding (dropping partially chewed feed)

At Charleville Vet Surgery, our experienced veterinarians provide comprehensive equine dental examinations and treatments to help keep your horse comfortable, healthy and performing at its best.

๐Ÿ’™ While your gelding is sedated for his dental, it's also the perfect opportunity to have a sheath clean performed. Regular sheath cleaning helps maintain hygiene, improves comfort and can prevent the build-up of sm**ma and other associated problems.
