"THE HORSES STAY BEHIND"
In days to come we'll wander west and cross the range again;
We'll hear the bush birds singing in the green trees after rain;
We'll canter through the Mitchell grass and breast the bracing wind:
But we'll have other horses. Our chargers stay behind.
Around the fire at night we'll yarn about old Sinai;
We'll fight our battles o'er again; and as the days go by
There'll be old mates to greet us. The bush girls will be kind,
Still our thoughts will often wander to the horses left behind.
I don't think l could stand the thought of my fancy hack
Just crawling 'round old Cairo with a 'Gyppo on his back.
Perhaps some English tourist out in Palestine, may find
My broken hearted Waler with a wooden plough behind.
NO; I think l'd better shoot him and tell a little lie:
"He floundered in a wombat hole and then lay down to die."
Maybe l'll get court-martialled; but l'm damned if l'm inclined
To go back to Australia and leave my horse behind.

This ANZAC Day, we remember the horses, who also made the ultimate sacrifice.
Lest We Forget šŸŒŗšŸ™

ANZAC Day
I was going to wish you a happy one, and I hope it is. But more than that, I want to wish you a blessed, grateful, proud and free one - because that’s the point.

ANZAC Day is not about division, and it’s not a glorification of war. It’s about coming together as a nation in camaraderie and gratitude to remember. It’s a celebration of freedom, ingenuity, grit, and mate-ship. It’s a commemoration of sacrifice, a day to remember that the freedoms we too often take for granted aren’t free.

May we stand proud together to keep alive the ANZAC spirit and the sense of community that this day represents.

Lest we forget! šŸ‡¦šŸ‡ŗ

Ever get on your horse and think something’s just not quite right?

Maybe they feel a little stiff, not as calm as usual. They turn away or make a face when you go to saddle or mount.
Short-stepping, uneven gait, head tossing, reluctance to move forward or faster, struggling to pick up the correct lead…

These little changes matter.

The earlier we notice them, the sooner we can pick up on what’s really going on. Most of the time, these behaviours are your horse trying to say, ā€œI’m uncomfortable.ā€ But often we brush it off as them being ā€œnaughtyā€ and ignore those subtle requests for help — until their pain gets so bad they have to act out loud enough for us to listen… or they simply break down.

Horses rarely act out for no reason. They always try the polite hints first — the stiffness, the tension, the resistance — long before they resort to the bigger behaviours we label as ā€œbad.ā€

Catching those early whispers means fewer problems, quicker results… and far fewer moments of wondering if you’re the one facing the wrong direction. šŸ˜†

I got to spend a little bit of quality time with my horses this afternoon & fill my cup up, before I head away again to look after other people’s horses.

It got me thinking… There’s a discussion I often hear or see online, about whether you should have horses if you don’t ride or don’t ride regularly.

Here’s my take, it’s not about how much you ride or ā€œuseā€ them. If spending non-riding time with your horses helps you feel grounded, helps you unwind, just gives you that bit of joy, supports your mental health… they’re not ā€œbeing wasted!ā€ Who actually cares whether you do or don’t ride them?? It’s about the connection, it’s about you and them being happy, healthy, comfortable & helping each other thrive!

If you can and want to ride, good for you!
If you just want to love and care for them, good for you!

There’s so many things and expectations the put stress and pressure on us in this world. I think we should put this one to rest and support each other in enjoying our horses however works best for each individual!

Do you agree?
I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Happy horsing!
