Grooming Experience 3 years 6 months

A big thank you to:
- Tiarne Perkiss for providing her lovely dog for student grooming at Elite Dog Grooming Academy and professional guidance throughout the day
- Rebel for being such a terrific model.
- This is the third dog of Tiarne's I have had the pleasure of grooming.

Dog Breed: English Springer Spaniel
Show Name: Aust. Champion Azucroft Perfect Pitch
Call Name: Rebel (the Devil)
S*x: Female
Temperament: This is my happy face.
Age: 5
Weight: 19 kgs

General Description
Rebel is a gun dog of classic good looks, well balanced and medium in size. One of the main goals was to get the jacket to lay smoothly over the head, throat, neck, shoulders, back, and down the sides.

Hand stripping
The coat was worked with hand stripping techniques, carrying and thinning shears to retain the proper coat texture, colour and natural look.

Furnishings
The feathering was left fairly natural, some leg hair was trimmed slightly to neaten and balance the outline.

Head
The longer hair was finger plucked, carded and stripped out by hand to retain a neat and natural look.

Throat trimmed with #10 in a V” and the cowlick line seam blended to make it invisible.

Ears
Top 1/3 trimmed with #10. Inside of ear clipped short with a light touch.
Detailing shears used on the ear edge.

Feet and Hocks.
Long fur between the toes brushed back and thinners shears used to neaten. The outside edge of the foot was tidied and the hocks trimmed with curved thinners.

Show Perspectives
The Highlight of the day was taking Rebel outside the salon onto the grass for a run and watch her go.

Rebel has a very good show gait, featuring a smooth, effortless and ground covering stride that demonstrates both balance and athletic ability.

There were no show gait faults (high stepping, short strides, crabbing) which I have seen at dog shows.

Rebel is an amazing dog and it was a pleasure to spend time with her.

I enjoy attending the shows at Hillsborough. Its a nice drive, the only concern is the weather. I was impressed with the puppies on this occasion, the supermodels were all on display and groomed to a high standard.

A standout was a 12 month old Standard Poodle who did well. I like the way his head piece has been developing over the last 6 months, the fullness of the legs and the flawless bevelled cuffs.

Grooming Experience 3 years 4 months

A big thank you to:
- Miss Lili''s owner Karen Wyers for providing her lovely dog for student grooming at Elite Dog Grooming Academy, Oak Flats, NSW. This is the second dog of Karen's I have had the pleasure of grooming.
- My instructor Tiarne Perkiss for her professional guidance throughout the day.
- Miss Lili for being such a terrific model

Dog Breed: Poodle (Toy)
Trim: Scandinavian
Show Name: Aust. Champion Beldana Supernova (Imp ESP)
Call Name: Lili
S*x: Female
Age: 7
Weight: 4 kgs

This is a very popular show poodle clip in Europe. Its a very stylish poodle cut that provides a distinctive shape without exposing any skin.

I asked for a challenge and Tiarne did not disappoint.
This groom required more assistance than usual and I got lost on a few occasions. It was a good opportunity to build self advocacy skills in a grooming setting. I walked away understanding the elements needed to give this trim its shape. I now need to practice all of this on a dog (for years) to nail it.

Notes to take to the next scandi trim:
Setting the Front Line and Front End Angulation
- This line should mimic the layback of the shoulder. The aim is to make the front leg is set well under (in the middle of the jacket/mane).
- Withers to the point of shoulder should be a 45 degree angle, mimic with the clipper line. Shears were laid flat and scissored straight out.
- The sc******ng should be connected to the return of upper arm and all the way to the rib spring.
- This trim carries alot of coat and the front leg should be kept nice and full.
- The challenge is to build and shape the hair on the chest area into a full, rounded appearance which takes alot of practice.

Underline
- It should be a complete line and can throw the entire trim off balance.

Jacket
- Should look nice and square. Use interpretation to set rear jacket line, not necessarily at the last rib. To get the bevel, comb hair back and shape towards the head, following the shape of the jacket.

The Tuck Up
- Aim to follow the natural bodyline.

Rear Legs (A-Frame)
- Where the stifle bends was a marker in alot of ways.
- The exaggerated hair in the back legs is what sets this trim apart from a 1st puppy trim.
- I tapped up the rear legs with a scissroing comb, used some anti-static spray and shears were pointed towards the tuck up.
- The rear legs were tight to where to stifle bends.
- Moving from where the stifle bends, one can leave more hair. This is where one can use more artistic license to leave more hair on the outside of the leg to create more flair and angulation.
- Insides of the rear leg are an "A" One third inside, two thirds outside.

Other
- The cowlicks underneath the tail are scissored short.
- One can use curved shears in reverse into the tuck up to get it tighter.

Macquarie Towns All Breeds Dog Training School

Date: 17 December 2025 Christmas Party.
Where: Deerubbin Park, Windsor in the beautiful Hawkesbury region, north west of Sydney NSW
When: Training is held on Wednesday evenings at 7:30 pm and Friday Mornings at 10.00am.
Instructor: Christine Payne
Cost: $2 per week

It was a pleasure to attend the last training session of the year with my best behaved customer Monty the Rough Collie and my Poppy the Standard Poodle. Both dogs were been rehomed earlier this year and have come along way in a short time.

Everyone was very well behaved and dressed up more or less with some Christmas apparel.

A big thank you to Christine who does a fantastic job with the class and Sharon, Montys owner who suggested this class to me.

Christine teaches dogs and handlers core commands (sit, drop, stay, come, heel) , managing distractions, building a strong bond, focusing on real-world scenarios for reliable behavior, all structured progressively from basic manners to competitive levels, emphasizing fun and clear communication for success.

I look forward to attending further classes with Poppy in 2026.

Grooming Experience 3 years 3 months

A big thank you to:
- Bailey's owner for providing their dog for student grooming at Elite Dog Grooming Academy, Oak Flats, NSW.
- Tiarne Perkiss for her professional guidance throughout the day.
- Shannon for her sc******ng tips.
- Bailey for being such a good boy.

Dog Breed: Miniature Schnauzer
Call Name: Bailey
S*x: Male
Age: 3
Weight: 7 kgs

Lessons learned to take onto the next groom:
- Pattern lines should be invisible on the main body. Could feather transition points more with thinning shears.
- Chest should be flat, I almost balded out this area due to cowlicks where the front legs join the chest, could blend by hand with thinning shears.
- Stifle area should have more furnishings to give the area more substance and angulation.
- Front legs should form two parallel lines going down from the elbow to the feet.
A setting gel or mousse could be added to add body to the leg coat for easier sc******ng.
- Brows could be more more arched and triangular. Could use curved shears in reverse and ensure both brow length and angle are the same.
- Beard hair could be blended more to create a rectangular shape.

Joey
2020-2025
Forever In Our Hearts

It is with great sadness that I share the recent passing of Joey the Golden Retriever. Joey was unfortunately bitten by a snake and did not make it.

I feel for his family's loss and the grief they are going through.

This is a poignant reminder that dogs live shorter lives and to cherish the time they are with us.

Joey was the quintessential example of man's best friend, the one absolutely unselfish friend that one can have in this selfish world.

Grooming Experience 3 years 1 month

A big thank you to:
- MJ's owners Mrs Kim Perkiss and Miss Tiarne Perkiss for providing their dog for student grooming.
- Tiarne for her professional guidance throughout the day.
- MJ for being such a good boy.

Dog Breed: Cavalier King Charles Spaniel
Call Name: MJ
Occupation: Show Dog (retired)
Show Name: NZ Champion Supreme Champion Tikimi Smooth Criminal
S*x: Male
Age: 8
Weight: 10 kgs
Colour: Blenheim - Rich chestnut markings on a pearly white background with a white blaze between the ears.
Temperament: If I like you, I'll start talking.
Pre-Work:
- Carding tool (Fine Show Tech Stripping Knife) pulled over the body, working in the direction of the coat growth to remove the soft downy undercoat allowing the guard coat to conform to the natural outline of the body and aid in the removal of loose shedding coat.
- Line brush, working in sections until the dog is tangle free.
- Double checked with a wide toothed comb.
- Entire body felt with hands for inconsistencies especially ears, around the ruff, thigh area, undercarriage and tail.
Bathing Type: Dilution.
Shampoo: Plush Puppy Deep Cleansing and Plush Puppy Natural Conditioning.
Conditioner: Plush Puppy Salon Formula Conditioner.
Other: Plush Puppy Reviva Coat Foam Conditioner applied to back.
Dryer/Nozzle: Challenge Double K/Flat.
Brush: Artero Professional Slicker Brush, Yento Bristle Brush.
Comb: Yento 23cm.
Trimming: Pads #30, Sanitary #10.
Nail: Clipped.
Detail Finish:
- Ears edged v. lightly with thinning shears.
- Outer perimeter of Feet neatened lightly into an oval shape (but still left fuzzy) with thinning shears.
- Top of the foot left untidied.
- Furnishings, skirt neatened v. lightly with thinning shears to achieve a natural look.
- Hocks not tidied up and left in a natural state.
- Whiskers not touched.

Notes:
It was a pleasure to groom MJ. He is such a sweet, gentle and affectionate dog and I was pleased with the final result being a long silky coat with a slight wave.

My Cavalier customers have modified shorter trims for easy maintenance and it was privilege to handle such a regal dog in a traditional look.

Issues to be mindful for next time
- How much conditioner I apply to the ears. It can take a while to rinse out and may weigh the hair down.

(Mr L Wright and Mr J Bennett)

Giant Schnauzer: Aust Ch Munchener Sir Charlie Chapwin
Siberian Husky: Aust Ch Articpride Tennesse Whiskey
Afghan Hound: TBA

Anton is a champion Standard Poodle who has won numerous Best in Show awards in Australia, including the Sydney Royal Dog Show and the Melbourne Royal Show.

He is currently ranked as Australia's #1 Dog (All Breeds) and currently has 23,223 points which is quite an achievement.

The only way a dog can get this many points is if they attend shows every week all over Australia and pretty much win everything. Anton is handled and groomed by James Bennett to a high standard.

https://www.facebook.com/james.bennett.121772

Anton presents as a confident dog and is very elegant in the ring. I think Anton has immense potential and is capable of great things in the future at an international level.
