Animals are not gifts, especially not for children ⬇️
Atlantis (budgie) and Popcorn & Candy (cockatiels) were given to a family by a fellow church member simply because the children liked animals. Gifting living creatures without the consent is highly irresponsible.
We are unsure of the exact reasons the adults in the family were unable to care for the birds even for a few weeks, but the birds needed urgent placement as the young children could not take on the responsibility (and should never have been expected to).
The birds arrived with full seed bowls, but they contained only empty husks, and all three were clearly hungry when offered fresh food.
The cockatiels appear to be a bonded pair and will be DNA tested (we suspect Popcorn is male and Candy is female), PBFD & Chlamydia screened, faecal checked, and microchipped prior to adoption. Sadly, Candy does not appear to be able to fly at all.
Atlantis has already made a friend in quarantine and is happily chirping and beaking with Seaweed, our stray from yesterday.
Please do not gift animals, especially when you haven’t asked first.
And huge thanks to transporter Claire for making the journey out west for them 💙
