Leptospirosis is a serious, potentially fatal disease that damages the liver and kidneys and can cause death without rapid intervention and aggressive treatment. With cases on the rise, vaccination is critical! especially for dogs at higher risk.
Who's at Higher Risk?
- Dogs living in rural or farm areas
- Pets exposed to high rodent populations
- Dogs frequenting wet, muddy, or stagnant water environments
Key Details:
- Available for puppies from 6 weeks of age
- Safe for pregnant dogs
- Booster shot required 4 weeks after the initial dose (for both puppies and adults)
How is Leptospirosis Transmitted?
- Pig and rodent urine in puddles, soil, and stagnant water
- Direct contact with the urine or tissues of an infected animal
- Many animals can carry the bacteria, including cattle, pigs, sheep, dogs, rodents, and marsupials—often without showing any symptoms.
What Does the Lepto-2 Vaccine Protect Against?
- Leptospira australis (common in northern regions)
- Leptospira Copenhagen (more common in southern regions)
Even with treatment, leptospirosis can be fatal, so prevention is key.
