The most handsome boy Cerberus🤎🐾

This little guy was in for his desex and BOAS corrective surgery🩺
The BOAS (brachycephalic obstructive airway syndrome) corrective surgery is a procedure where excess tissue is removed to allow for easier breathing and better quality of life in these breeds with ‘squished’ faces. This procedure can include resection of the soft palate (soft tissue that separates the nasal passages from the throat) and widening of the nostrils (stenotic nares)🐾

If you own one of these cuties and are unsure if they need this procedure, you are welcome to talk to your vet about this and have them assessed, as not all brachycephalic breeds require this surgery😊

Hey all,

We have no power currently which means our phones won’t be working until 8:30am. If you have an emergency, please come straight down. Otherwise, we will be back on board soon.

Sorry for the inconvenience 🙏🏻

Update - 10am: All fixed! Thank you for your patience 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

Update - 9am: Our phones have been redirected to our clinic mobile for the time being. We thank you for your patience as we are now limited to one line rather than four, meaning there will be higher wait times. If there is a person ahead of you, the line will prompt you to leave a voicemail. We kindly ask you do not leave a voicemail as this will not be monitored; Please wait and try again later, or send an email.
Again, if you have an emergency, please come straight down.

Thank you.

Morning guys,

Our phones are not working this morning, we do apologise. We are currently working to get them back up and running.
If you have an emergency, please come down right away. For all semi-non urgent matters, please send us an email.

We will update here when our phones are back up!

Thanks for your patience,
The Parkway Team🐾

Little Teddy🧸🖤
This cutie was in for a revision surgery on his Oronasal Fistula site which had broken down🦷🪡
This is where there is a connection between the oral cavity and nasal passage; and, spoiler alert, this is abnormal! If left untreated it can cause health issues such as chronic inflammation and discomfort/pain, coughing or respiratory irritation, sneezing, etc and is negatively impactful to the overall wellbeing of the pet.
One of the most common causes of oronasal fistulas in dogs is severe dental disease, and is often an incidental finding during a dental procedure, as was the case with Teddy.

Teddy will be feeling much better after his surgery! We wish him all the best in recovery❤️‍🩹🐾

Please lookout for your pets this week as the temperature rises towards 40 degrees.

The usual summer routines are important: avoid walking or exercising pets during the day, hot cars, hot pavements and balconies and always keeping your pets cool with water and shade during the summer months but this week, it's EVEN MORE vital.

Remember the outdoor pets too like chooks, goats, rabbits, horses and others. These ARE NOT 'average' summer conditions.

🌬️ Provide your pets with a cool, shaded area with proper ventilation at all times.
🧊 Give frozen treats for your pets and frozen water bottles for your bunnies and ferrets to cool their bodies.
🏊 Mud puddles, splash pools, water misters or sprinklers are all good ideas for dogs and chickens.
🥵 Avoid walks in the heat of the day - rather plan to go in the morning or evenings when it is cooler.
🧴 Slip, slop slap - get some pet friendly sunscreen for dogs with light skin and noses.
🐭 Small animals like rabbits, guinea pigs, birds, rats and mice are highly susceptible to heat stress (which can be fatal). Make sure these animals are kept in cool and shady spots and provide cool treats for them to enjoy.

Stay safe and keep an eye on the Bureau of Meteorology website for the latest conditions and extreme weather warnings: https://buff.ly/oR50Ono

Stay cool😎🐾

Stay cool😎🐾

With hot weather expected this week, if you can't hold the back of your hand to the pavement for more than a few seconds, it's too hot for your pet 🌞

Hot surfaces don't just burn their paws; the high air temperature can also lead to dangerous heatstroke, as dogs can't cool themselves down effectively 🥵

During hot weather, only take your dog for a walk outside early in the morning or later in the evening when it is cooler. You should also avoid walking on hot surfaces like pavements, asphalt or sand.

This advice is crucial for our more vulnerable companions, such as flat-faced breeds, seniors, young pups, or those with existing health problems.

If you think your pet has overheated or is suffering from heat-related issues, call an RSPCA veterinary hospital or your local veterinarian immediately ❤️

ATTENTION: CVES will be closed tonight.
If you have a medical emergency, please contact ARH who will triage and advise accordingly.
For all non urgent issues please contact the Walk In Clinic for Animals in Belconnen.

Dear Canberra community,

Our Leadership Team comes to you today with a very important message. With heavy hearts, and after a great deal of deliberation, we have made the difficult decision to close our beloved clinic for tonight (23.12.25).

This decision was not made lightly.

For us, Christmas is the busiest time of the entire year. With many of our colleagues closing for a very well-deserved holiday break, we understand the importance of remaining available to the public becomes even more significant. In order to prioritise that need and to be available to the community throughout the entire Christmas break, we were left with no alternative but to close our doors tonight.

While this was a difficult decision, it will allow us to reopen earlier tomorrow, at 2.00 pm, to accept transfers and continue ongoing care for animals requiring support during the Christmas break, as well as those who experience emergencies.

We will also be open 24 hours all the way through to Monday, 29 December.

For those requiring emergency and critical care tonight, we apologise from the bottom of our hearts. We truly tried our best. However, caring for the entire community sometimes requires making very difficult choices.

We sincerely appreciate your unwavering support and understanding.

Kindest regards,
CVES Leadership Team
