💔 Paying Tribute to Smart Image 💔
Last night our hearts broke. We lost one of the very best to ever wear our colours — Smart Image.
Smarty was more than just a racehorse. He was a warrior for our team, a winner of 11 races for us, 15 in total and the horse that gave us one of the greatest highs of our careers when he won a Saturday Brisbane race two years ago. He gave us moments we will cherish forever.
He played a huge role in the journey back for our stable apprentice Krysten. With her back in the saddle of a morning, he lifted to another level; time and time again helping her rebuild confidence after injury. Everyone who rode him at home played a huge part in his success, and he always gave his all in return.
But beyond the racetrack, Smarty was something truly special. He was an absolute gentleman around the stables; kind, honest, and adored by everyone who worked with him. He was our pin-up boy, a favourite of the team, and without doubt one of the best horses to race in the north. Last night is not how his story was ever meant to end, and the pain of that is something we are deeply struggling with.
A heartfelt thank you to his owner, Cliff, for entrusting us with such an incredible horse. Thank you for allowing us to share in the highs, the wins, the memories, and the bond that only a horse like Smarty can create. We have reached the highest of highs together, and now we face the lowest of lows.
Thank you, Smarty, for everything you gave us; far more than we could ever have dreamed of in racing. You owed us nothing, yet you gave us everything. We are so deeply sorry we couldn’t do more for you last night. You will forever be part of our stable and our hearts. Rest peacefully, beautiful boy.
Finally, we extend our deepest gratitude to the track staff at Aquis Park Gold Coast and to Damien Thornton for the compassion, care, and professionalism they showed in such a heartbreaking moment. They ensured Smarty was treated with the dignity, respect, and kindness he deserved.
Today, we race with heavy hearts. We hope our horses and riders returns safe, race well, and do Smarty proud.
