Update on little Hop
Thank you to QLD xray we got to put her through the CT scan.
Her shell is a mess and the propeller hit her spine. Speaking to Dr Douglas Mader world expert he said with intensive care they can recover. She has a new bed, mattress for comfort and towels. Every 3 hrs nice warm water over her towels.
Although this will be a long expensive recovery we won't give up every turtle deserved a chance. Fingers crossed for Hop's recovery

This is what happens when turtles are hit by boats
Hop (pidgeon for hope)
Severe Boat Strike Damage
She was found by a customer at Green Island and taken to Melanesia Marine. Thank you to Toddy who put glad wrap over wounds to prevent heat loss without this she may have not made it to Cairns. Thank you Quicksilver for 1 waiting for her to board and the care transferring her.
Thank you to Nikki without her help i would have struggled. Last night she slept peacefully in my bathroom on a foam mattress with pain killers on board. Today she is off to have surgery

Protecting Queensland’s precious environment means backing the people doing the work on the ground.

The Crisafulli Government is backing champions like Jennie and Cairns Turtle Rehabilitation Centre, who are helping rehabilitate and protect our marine life for the next generation of Queenslanders. 🐢

The new Green Island centre will be a great addition to the other CTRC centres. A huge thank you to all the hard work and dedication from the wonderful volunteers that attribute to the success of CTRC.

Come with us to relocate Jelly the Flatback Sea turtle from Fitzroy Island turtle hospital to JCU! 🐢

Jelly was found floating off Fitzroy island last Wednesday and is now headed to the JCU hospital! Here she will have for further examination to figure out what has caused her to have an air pocket underneath her shell!

A HUGE Thankyou to and staff for providing the turtle taxi and ensuring that Jelly had a safe journey! 💚

Today is the day to take a little extra care of this beautiful country we call home! 🐢🌈

Although everyday should be clean up Australia Day, it’s a great excuse to get your friends together and do a little community clean up! 🦋

Head down to your favourite park or beach with a pair of gloves and start collecting some rubbish!

Sadly every year we have patients coming into our hospitals that have been impacted by marine pollution and it is our responsibility to make this planet a home for not just ourselves but all of the beautiful creatures we share it with!
