August Members Competition Northcoast Active-Riders Group 🏆

We’re still working on rebuilding Lady’s confidence, so this weekend was all about finding the little wins.

We survived the warm-up and found some lovely moments of relaxation, both there and throughout our two tests. After a spook in our first test, we regrouped, kept going and finished with some really positive comments from the judges.

We’re also starting to see some 7s appear on the score sheet again, which feels like such a lovely sign that the hard work is starting to show.

Far from perfect, but progress and that’s why we show up.

You kept going when things didn’t go to plan.

Anyone else get so focused on the ridden aspect that they forget they have other tools in the toolbox? 👀

Since we purchased Lady, she has always struggled with picking up the correct canter lead on the right rein, and she gets quite frustrated with herself when she doesn’t. Bless her, she tries so hard 🤎

So, enter long lining.

Long lining isn’t just for youngsters and breakers. It’s another valuable tool in our training toolbox allowing us to work on balance, straightness, coordination, strength and responses to the aids, all without the rider in the saddle.

For Lady, it gives us another way to approach something she finds difficult, without repeatedly asking the same question under saddle.

Sometimes the answer isn’t to keep asking the same way, sometimes you just need use another tool from your toolbox.
