Just a reminder:

We have now officially relocated to Perth 😭

Our business page and FB Messenger will remain active as I am always here for updates, to offer recommendations on breeders, questions on how to order posted eggs or poultry/incubation questions in general!

Posted eggs are a very accessible resource for anyone interested in hatching out their own chicks! There is always a small risk with the eggs going through heat fluctuations, excessive handling and time to arrive but don’t let that deter you!

Last season we hatched 11 chicks out of 12 eggs from Sinead’s Poultry Paradise. That was after the eggs had travelled interstate on two flights to reach Broome! Be wary of scam accounts and if in doubt, ask more questions or reach out to us.

There is also the Kimberley Region Poultry Genetic Exchange and Broome Chickens to keep a finger on the pulse as to what is available locally.

Breeding season begins late August, so don’t despair if there isn’t much available at present. The poultry world is abuzz with excitement gearing up for breeding season only a few weeks away!

Our amazing friends in Bullsbrook are gearing up for hatching season. I have been to their property multiple times and their flock are beautiful!

If Gem decides to start posting eggs, highly recommend their flock for posted eggs as they would arrive in two days time to Broome. I myself have already asked about upcoming pullets for my own little home flock 🤭

Our beautiful boy Chirpy is a father!

Chirpy is our beloved Olive Egger from a hatch last season that was returned to us via our Rooster Return Policy. Whilst waiting to find Chirpy a new home, it became very obvious what an amazing future rooster he would make as he was protective of the flock, constantly on watch for aerial predators, found tidbits for the girls and was calm, gentle and lovely to be around.

Chirpy was relocated into our Partridge Welsummer breeding pen whilst awaiting his forever home as his crow is loud and proud. Just as you imagine a young, strong rooster would sound.

Coming into breeding season, I started to fertility test the Partridge Welsummer eggs knowing Chirpy would be the father and not the Welsummer boy, as Chirpy was older, stronger and alpha between the two boys. Then we found out we were relocating to Perth mid incubation so I won’t have the enjoyment of growing these babies out til sexing age unless they come to Perth with me.

If we have a good hatch, I’ll offer the chicks out to the Kimberley community to see if there is any interest

They are Olive Egger x Welsummer.

Unsexed on hatch (due to Chirpy’s genetics) and the future hens from the hatch will lay either olive eggs like their dad’s genetics or brown eggs like their mum.

As we are relocating in less than two weeks, I won’t be able to honour my usual Rooster Return Policy simply because I won’t be here, so please keep this in mind.

Let me know your favourite chicken so I can start thinking about the 4 breeds to go for! I’m a mixed flock fan.

Coloured eggs? Fluffy goofballs? Prolific layers? The options are endless. What would you choose?

If anyone would like a turn at incubating some Olive Eggers from breeder What the Cluck Wandering, I have two dozen fertile Olive Eggs arriving tomorrow I could offer to anyone interested in incubating via incubator or broody hen, instead of incubating them myself.

The two dozen fertile eggs were 1️⃣6️⃣0️⃣ so you’d be welcome to all,
8️⃣0️⃣ for a dozen or
4️⃣0️⃣ for half a dozen

The chicks hatched would be unsexed chicks so please keep this in mind and have a game plan for any cockerels that are hatched by either offering them for pet or pot and communicating this with anyone you offer the chicks to locally if once homed, it is their responsibility.

It is important that with the excitement of hatching and having more locals taking an interest in incubating their own eggs, we stay responsible for cockerel ownership and do the right thing.

Very sad news for me/from me.

I received news only an hour ago that we will be relocating to Perth for my partners company expansion. The hardest part was hearing it will be as soon as five weeks time.

Heidi’s Hatchery has been such a positive focus in my life. In such a short time, I have met so many amazing people and was truly looking forward to our year ahead with talks of having a market stall once Auskick finished, open days for anyone wishing to meet the chicks and learn about poultry, mothers group and of course our planned chick hatches.

There will be no need for Heidi’s Hatchery in Perth as there are already multiple breeders and hatcheries in high competition, so this is quite sad for me as I had only just begun my little hatchery journey and finally found my passion.

Posted eggs truly are such a fantastic option for incubating breeds we don’t have local access to. If you’re interested in incubating or wish to know what breeders we have used and fb groups to join etc, please feel free to reach out. There are so many heat tolerant breeds to choose from, all with different laying capabilities, temperament, egg sizes and colours.

For those local to the Kimberley, please join the Kimberley Region Poultry Genetic Exchange during breeding season to share what you have and keep the excitement for poultry ownership alive!

I have to offer up my two breeding teams to new homes which come from dedicated Perth breeders and €o$t a lot to have flown to Broome. I am hoping to keep the breeding teams in tact so someone locally can continue to offer fertile eggs and/or chicks to the community. I’ll be running at a huge loss moving them on but it’ll be worth it to know fertile egg and chick access remain in the region.

If you have any questions about posted eggs or incubation, I’m always ready to chat.

We have been lucky enough to offer our incubation services out of breeding season to a local resident with their own fertile eggs and they are excitedly midway through the hatching process! The enjoyment of watching them hatch never gets old.

If you ever hear of pipping and unzipping, pipping is when we first notice a tiny break in the shell which can be spotted on the front right hand corner egg in our video. A chick has unzipped the egg in the back left corner, almost like a zipper appearance which the chick makes with its beak prior to fully hatching.

This video was filmed last night with more chicks hatching overnight and the original chicks now looking like typical fluffy chicks once drying out.

NB- These are not our chicks so they will not be available from us. If the local has excess, we’re more than happy to assist in getting word out

Introducing our Broome based Pekin breeding team

Caramel the Pekin is Milliefleur in colour accompanied by his three girlfriends being Milliefleur, Milliefleur frizzle and Porcelain.

We are hopeful they’ll be ready for a 25/26 breeding season to offer day old chicks and fertile eggs for anyone wishing to have a turn at hatching out their own chicks via incubator or broody hen.
