Winter has arrived and with that a lot of owners are requesting to leave their dogs coats long which I completely understand but let me explain what that means for me and your dog for the grooming appointment.

To keep the length, the coat has to be 100% knot free, when I do a short haircut over the warmer months I’m able to cut the knots out as the short blade length cuts underneath those knots but doing a longer style means those knots have to be removed and combed out as the blade isn’t cutting underneath the knots. This then takes me longer to do the groom as I need to comb those knots out to prepare for the longer blade length. It also means I am tugging at your dogs coat all over their body which is uncomfortable and can hurt and dogs do find this upsetting. Then as the coat is longer and the weather is cold it takes me longer to dry the coat. It also means you will have to shorten the time between grooming appointments as the longer length means more maintenance to keep on top of the knots, the longer the coat the more likely it will knot. If you normally go 8-10 weeks between appointments you will have to shorten it to 6-8 weeks. So please allow me more time to complete the groom if you are wanting to keep the coat longer and know I will need to charge an additional cost for any extra time spent combing out knots.

I have added a photo of metal combs to this post, please get one! I feel we lead owners down the wrong path by saying ‘brush your dog’ but what we really need to say is ‘brush and then comb your dog’. The brushing does the top of the coat but misses the hair close to the skin but with the metal comb it goes all the way down to the skin and finds those hidden knots! If you can’t get the comb through the hair then my longer blades can’t either.

I really like these combs, they are solid and a good size for the hand to hold on to, the wider spaced teeth are for bigger knots and the closer teeth are for smaller knots. You can order these online with Fetch Grooming Supplies who are based in Perth.

This change will help cover rising costs of products, equipment, and time so I can continue providing safe, high-quality grooming and the best care for your dogs.

Please note, In 4.5 years this is only my second price increase.

I have included my new price list with this post, there are a couple of new size categories, extra small, small/medium and extra large, feel free to message me if you are unsure of your dogs size.

I truly appreciate your ongoing support and trust in me to look after your pups, your flexibility when I need to change dates and times means a lot to me and I am also happy to return that flexibility to you when needed.
