You left before me, Pip — far too early,
Long before my heart was ready to say goodbye.
Those beautiful dark eyes of yours
Still rise in my mind like a soft sunrise,
Eyes that spoke in a language
Only love could understand.
Your soft coat, warm beneath my fingers,
The way you leaned in just a little closer
When someone needed comfort —
That was your gift.
Gentle with everyone,
Loved by all who ever met you.
Now your bowl sits empty,
Still in its place, still holding the shape of your absence.
And my heart feels just as hollow
As I learn to walk through days
Where your paws no longer follow behind me,
Where your presence is now a memory
Instead of a heartbeat beside mine.
But when I close my eyes, Pip,
I see you running again —
My brave, joyful girl,
Chasing those motorbikes with all the fire
That made you you.
Ears flying back, tail up,
That spark in your step
That made the world brighter.
Over the rainbow bridge you go, sweet Pip,
To fields that never end
And skies that never darken.
Where your spirit is free,
Your legs strong,
Your heart light.
And although you’re gone from my arms,
You’re never gone from me.
Every beat of my heart
Still whispers your name —
Pip, my girl, my love, my forever friend.
Run fast now, run free.
I’ll meet you again one day
Where the rainbow touches the earth
