I am at all times an advocate for the horse, striving to attain the highest levels of performance possible. By taking a ‘whole horse’ approach I aim to improve equine performance and the horse/rider relationship. I am a fully qualified and insured Emmett practitioner with experience in treating a wide range of performance horses including racehorses, show hacks, dressage horses, show jumpers and eventers.
I have completed the RockTape Equine taping course and will include kinesiology taping as part of my treatments when beneficial. I have undertaken 2 of 3 modules of the Certificate in Lorinery Science with Neue Schule in the UK and I am one of only 2 students in Australia to be accepted into the ICPBC (International College for Professional Bit Fitting Consultants) in the Netherlands. I am also in the final stages of qualifying as a Certified Equine Ergonomist with Saddlefit 4 Life.
Continued professional development is important to me and I regularly undertake courses to improve my knowledge and services to clients. So far in 2020 I have completed Dr Sue Dyson’s Recognising 24 Pain Behaviours in Ridden Horses & attended webinars with Centaur Biomechanics.
So What is EMMETT and How Does it Work?
Emmett technique is a unique body therapy created by Australian Ross Emmett, that works equally well on both humans and animals.
This light touch muscle release technique, uses a horses’ neuro muscular pathway to reset muscle memory resulting in a more balanced, soft and supple equine. The technique involves the application of light pressure on specific points to affect release in the surrounding muscles. It is a gentle and safe technique that can improve movement and flexibility and aid in delivering increased performance for your horse.
Common conditions that an Emmett treatment can assist with:
· Restricted movement/stride length/flexibility
· Reduced biomechanical efficiency
· Tension in back and lumbar area
· Unbalanced head carriage
· Issues relating to poor fitting saddles/tack
· Injury recovery
So What is RockTape and How Does it Work?
RockTape is a kinesiology tape, made from flexible cotton and nylon fibres with an adhesive backing which allows full movement while providing some support and stability. The idea of RockTape is to facilitate correct movement patterns through taping.
Regional taping – involves taping to reduce pain and/or facilitate correct movement patterns following injury or to minimise potential injury.
Postural taping – is used to correct postural biomechanic dysfunction for both horse and rider
Edema taping – is a simple and effective method to reduce swelling enabling faster recovery.
The proper application of the tape creates a lifting effect that decompresses the tissue just under the skin, increasing nerve supply and fluid flow in the taped area. Taping is also said to have a neurological effect. The receptors within the skin play a part in movement awareness (proprioception). These are believed to be stimulated by the application of tape to the skin. RockTape can be used as a stand alone or as a complementary treatment in equine therapy. RockTape may be beneficial in the treatment of :
