Families of Bunbury: Weβd love your thoughts
We are currently developing a community project called Families of Bunbury, and we would love to hear whether this is something our community would value.
The idea is to create a storytelling, photography and visual archive project that celebrates the many ways family exists in Bunbury today.
Families would be invited to submit a photo and a short reflection about what makes their family unique, including culture, heritage, family structure, story, traditions, challenges, strengths, humour, love and belonging.
From the wider community submissions, 50 families would be selected for a professional portrait and storytelling series, which would become part of a public exhibition. The broader submissions would also help create an online community archive celebrating Bunbury families.
We hope to capture the real diversity of family life in our community, including Aboriginal families, multicultural families, LGBTQIA+ families, single-parent families, blended families, step families, foster and kinship families, grandparent-led families, families living with disability, neurodivergent families, young families, intergenerational families, and all the many other ways family, care and belonging show up in Bunbury.
This project is about helping local families feel seen, valued and represented.
We are currently preparing a grant application to help bring this project to life.
We would really appreciate your comments below:
Would you like to see a project like this happen in Bunbury?
Why do you think it matters for different types of families to be represented and celebrated?
Would your family, or families you know, be interested in participating?
Your comments will help us show community interest and support for the project.
Thank you for helping us build something meaningful for Bunbury families.
