🌿🐾 Allergy Awareness for Pets 🐾🌿

Spring is in the air! 🌼 Just like people, pets can suffer from allergies too — and they can be uncomfortable, frustrating, and sometimes painful if left untreated.

Pet allergies can be caused by a range of triggers including:
🌱 Environmental allergens (grass, pollen, dust mites)
🍗 Food sensitivities
🦟 Fleas and parasites
🧴 Household products or shampoos

✨ Common signs of allergies in pets:
• Excessive scratching or licking
• Red, inflamed, or irritated skin
• Ear infections or head shaking
• Hair loss or hot spots
• Chewing at paws
• Sneezing or watery eyes

If you notice these signs, your pet may benefit from a veterinary check-up. Allergies can often be managed successfully with the right treatment plan tailored to your pet’s needs.

Ways to help manage allergies:
✔️ Regular flea prevention
✔️ Bathing with vet-recommended products
✔️ Allergy-friendly diets where needed
✔️ Reducing environmental triggers
✔️ Ongoing veterinary care and monitoring

Early intervention can help keep your pet comfortable and improve their quality of life. 🐶🐱

PAYMENT POLICY REMINDER

To help ensure a smooth experience for all our clients, please note that payment is required on the day of your pet's procedure or upon collection of your pet.

If you are unable to pay the full amount upfront, we offer the following third-party finance options (subject to approval):

• VetPay – https://vetpay.com.au/

• Zip Pay – https://zip.co/au/zip-pay

We also accept pet insurance claims. Where available through your insurer, we can process claims via GapOnly®, allowing eligible clients to pay only the gap between the veterinary invoice and the insurer's benefit at the time of treatment.

Please note that GapOnly® availability depends on your insurer and policy, and any remaining balance is still payable on the day.

While we are happy to assist with finance and insurance options, we do not offer payment plans directly through the clinic.

🐾 June is National Microchipping Month & July is Lost Pet Prevention Month! 🐾

Did you know that a microchip is one of the simplest and most effective ways to help reunite you with your pet if they ever become lost?

In Western Australia, microchipping is not just recommended—it's the law.

📍 WA Microchipping Requirements:
🐶 Dogs must be microchipped by 3 months of age.
🐱 Cats must be microchipped by 6 months of age.
🏡 All cats and dogs must be microchipped before being transferred to a new owner, regardless of age.

For cats in WA, registration, microchipping and desexing are generally required from 6 months of age. Microchipping is also required before local council registration for both cats and dogs.

A microchip is a permanent form of identification that greatly increases the chances of your pet being returned home if they are found wandering or brought to a veterinary clinic, ranger facility, or shelter. However, a microchip only works if your contact details are kept up to date!

✅ Moving house?
✅ Changed phone numbers?
✅ Adopted a pet from someone else?

Make sure your microchip details are updated with the registered database.

This National Microchipping Month, take a moment to check that your pet's microchip is registered and your contact information is current. If you're unsure, our team can help scan your pet's microchip and point you in the right direction.

❤️ Because every lost pet deserves the best chance of finding their way home.

📞 Contact us today to book a microchip appointment or to check your pet's microchip details.

IMPORTANT COMMUNITY UPDATE:
AVIAN INFLUENZA (BIRD FLU) IN WA

Dear Clients and Community Members,

You may have seen recent reports regarding the detection of highly pathogenic avian influenza (H5N1) in wild birds in Western Australia. This is the first confirmed detection of the virus on mainland Australia, and authorities are actively monitoring the situation and responding to reports of sick and deceased wild birds.

As a precautionary measure, our clinic is currently unable to accept, treat, or house wild birds until further notice. This decision has not been made lightly, but it is necessary to help minimise the risk of disease transmission and protect our patients, staff, volunteers, and the wider community.

We know how much our local community cares about native wildlife, and we share your concern!

For the wellbeing of injured and unwell birds. At this time, if you encounter a sick, injured, or deceased wild bird, please do not handle it unless absolutely necessary and keep pets and children away from the area.

For Bunbury and surrounding areas:

• Contact Wildcare Helpline on (08) 9474 9055 for advice regarding sick, injured, orphaned, or deceased wildlife.

• Contact FAWNA (Friends of Australian Wildlife Needing Aid) on 0438 526 660 for wildlife rescue assistance and guidance.

• If you observe multiple sick or dead wild birds (more than five), unusual disease signs, or a suspected disease outbreak, please report it to the Emergency Animal Disease Hotline: 1800 675 888. Reporting is important to assist surveillance and early detection efforts.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we work together to protect our pets, livestock, native wildlife, and community. We will continue to monitor advice from state and national authorities and provide updates should our protocols change.
