I like to keep high arousal activities outside so inside home is contextually a place of rest

Crate training has been the cornerstone success here with Blossom the light coloured . the is only 7 months old and with spearing hormones and seemingly endless energy has trouble switching off … if he can’t he gets structured rest in the crate or tied up. As he gets older he will get more opportunities to rest without restrictions.

Lots of learning happening here.

Support video sent to a client having a common issue with tug his tug game… his dog is running away with the toy and basically doesn’t yet understand how the game works.

Key points:
✅ Use a lead
✅ Don’t chase the dog, move away from them
✅ Don’t allow a two player game to become a one player game.
✅ Consider attaching a rope to the toy or using a flirt pole to help reduce the dogs flight response and enable you to interact and re-engage from further away
✅The tug toy is interactive. It’s not a chew toy and should never be left with the dog. When you stop playing it goes away

Are your expectations reasonable ? Have you taken into account your 0-3 year olds rapid periods of development?

I’m NOT say we should excuse or tolerate bad behaviour it’s a statement to help you have reasonable expectations of your dog so you can provide loving leadership, ongoing training and management as your dogs personality and drives develop and they change!!

So many dogs end up being rehomed, or thought of as bad dogs when in actual fact they’re just doing their best with the leadership and guidance they’ve been given…

Our job is to be a loving, educated and compassionate leader for our dogs.

SEEING A LOT OF LOST/FOUND DOG POSTS LATELY...

These are a loving personal reminder to go check your dog right now and ensure they ALWAYS have a securely fitted collar and name tag with current mobile numbers.

You might think, nah nah my dog is fine.. but have you considered what your off lead dog would do if you had a medical emergency out in the street? Your dog is collarless and unsure , might stay, might go home , might be frightened …. It’s a risk .

Plus if your dog ever involved in a fight (even if it's not aggressive/reactive it can still get involved or defend itself), the collar is the most safe and reliable way to get control of a dog and break up the fight .

Hard to think about these things sometimes but better to have it and not need it than vice versa

Animals are unpredictable, even the well trained ones.
