Check out this adorable noisy miner fledgling being looked after by nurse Daniee! 🐣

If you spot a baby bird on the ground, first assess if it’s a nestling (mostly featherless and cannot walk) or fledgling (has feathers and may be attempting to hop or fly), and whether it’s nest or parents are nearby.

The best place for a healthy baby bird to be is with its parents, but if it has an injury, please bring it in to your local vet.

Fun Fact: Noisy Miners are native Australian honeyeaters, often confused with the Common Myna (an introduced pest species).

Last week, we bid our admin queen and expert pet cuddler, Alexis, a fond farewell.

From cuddling nervously patients to supporting her team mates, Lexi consistently goes above and beyond for the wellbeing of both patients and her team. She has been a core part of the Northgate Vet team, and while we are sorry to see her go, we are excited for the next chapter in her journey 🌈

Butter wouldn’t melt 🧈

We recently had the very clever and cheeky border collie Rorey in for a Puppy Pack visit, which included Rorey being given his flea, tick and worming medications as well as a heartworm prevention injection 💉

Fun Fact: Border Collies were first bred on the border of England and Scotland - and the word “collie” is a Scotch word for sheepdogs - hence the name!

🦉 Mythbuster Monday 🪄 - Unlike what Harry Potter may have led us to think, barn owls can be found on every continent except Antarctica!

These beautiful birds are recognised for their heart shaped faces, which allow even the slightest sounds to be channelled towards the ears and allow these owls to hunt even in complete darkness.

If you ever find injured wildlife, you can bring them into our care for veterinary attention.

This little ringtail possum was brought in after being found alone — and just look at that sweet face! After a good feed, a warm-up, and some TLC from our team, he was feeling much better and has now headed off to a wildlife carer for ongoing support.

Feel-Good Friday with sweet Mable 💕🐾
This lovely girl came in for an ultrasound to check on her hernia, just to make sure no important organs had slipped out of place. Thankfully, the results were good news — the hernia only contained fat, which is far less risky and easier to manage! 🙌

Hernias in pets can occur for a few reasons, including trauma, genetics, or as a result of increased abdominal pressure. While not all hernias are dangerous, it’s always important to have them assessed by your vet — especially to rule out any risk to internal organs.

Mable was such a good girl for her scan and had cuddles from the team all day long! 💗
