Last weekend, Orion and I had the absolute privilege of learning from Jas at her Unlocking the Potential seminar (swipe to see some snaps of us training and Orion being his cute self with Jas!). And let me tell you—it lived up to the name.

One of the biggest lightbulb moments for me was around play. We explored the different types of play, the dynamics involved, and how it impacts our relationship with our dogs. It was seriously eye-opening.

Jas showed me that I tend to fall into the same play patterns with dogs—including Orion. And while that might feel fine on my end, for the dogs it becomes predictable... and honestly, a bit boring. Jas helped me see that dogs know when you’re letting them win. It’s sweet, sure—but not very satisfying for them.

Instead, by actively trying to keep the toy and make them work for it, you create a much more exciting game. It taps into their natural drive and gives them something to truly engage with. They put in more effort, and when they finally win—it actually means something.

Orion, bless his heart, always plays because he loves me. But when I changed up my approach and made it more of a challenge, I saw a whole new side of him come alive. That spark, the joy, the satisfaction—it was amazing.

I walked away from the seminar with so many new insights and a huge appreciation for how powerful (and nuanced) play can be. It’s not just a reward—it’s a connection, a conversation, and a way to build something really special with our dogs.

🤓 Our education continues!

📚 Orion and I had the pleasure of learning from Jas last weekend at her 2 Day "Unlocking the Potential" seminar on the Sunshine Coast.

🐾 Jas is an incredible trainer and an asset to the dog training community with a wealth of knowledge to share! I learnt value information I can incorporate into my play sessions with Orion and with my clients dogs!

☀️ Thank you to for hosting another epic seminar! My brain needed a big rest today 😂

Surely it's not just me, right? 😅😂

I'll be speaking completely normally and then I have to answer "yes" in response to a question and it comes out all excited and pitchy like with the dogs! I say it so much I think I've lost the ability to say it like a normal person 😂

People usually see the cute dogs, the progress posts, the happy updates…
But the reality behind this job? It can be a lot heavier than it looks!

This isn’t just a 9–5 for me - it's my whole life!
Some days I'm on top of the world and others it's a struggle to get through the day, but there's never a day I regret the work I do and I love being able to help so many dogs and their owners live better lives!

To other trainers feeling the weight of this work—I see you.
To the clients who keep showing up and trying—thank you.
This work matters. Even on the hard days!

19/03/2025

Before I was a dog trainer, I was a 9-year-old kid with a tiny treat pouch, a handful of liver treats, and a Rottweiler named Luger. I was obsessed with teaching him things—how to walk nicely, sit, shake and even run across the road with me because I thought that was the safest way as a kid 😂 He was sassy, but patient with me, and I had no idea at the time that he was setting me up for everything that came next.

At 16, I got my first job in the dog world—cleaning at a daycare after school. When I graduated, they offered me a full-time spot on their Adventure Team, doing activities with 40 dogs multiple times a week. It was fun, but while my classmates were off to uni with their lives planned out, I had no idea where I was heading. My teacher was disappointed I wasn’t going to university, but deep down, I knew dogs were my future.

Then, everything changed. Luger passed away at only 9 years old, and just a month later, Orion came home. They never got to meet sadly. I was grieving one dog while raising another, which was really rough. Then Orion nearly died at 6 months old, and ever since, he’s faced ongoing health challenges. He’s been through so much, but he’s also shaped me as a person and as a trainer. We’ve figured things out together, and now we’re a great team.

Not long after Orion arrived, I started my Cert III in Dog Training & Behaviour. I’d been assisting the trainers at work and was hooked, but as I learned more, I started noticing things I didn’t agree with. The daycare was too much—for the dogs and for me. A year later, I left, searching for a business that actually aligned with my values. Turns out, I couldn’t find one.

So, in 2021, I built my own! Snoot Services was born out of everything I’d learned—the good, the bad, and the things I swore I’d do differently. Now, it’s thriving. I’ve worked with hundreds of dogs, I keep learning from the best in the world, and soon, Snoot Skool will help even more owners!

At the time, I had no clue where I was headed. But if there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s to trust the process. Even when it feels like you’re winging it, things have a way of working out 🙌🐾🌲❤️🌊

18/03/2025

If love alone could cure aggression, I’d be out of a job. But here’s the truth—giving your reactive or aggressive dog more love, more freedom, more affection isn’t going to solve the problem.

Your dog isn’t struggling because they need more cuddles. They’re struggling because they don’t know how to navigate the world, and you haven’t given them the structure to figure it out.

A reactive dog doesn’t need endless affection.
An aggressive dog doesn’t need more freedom.

What they need is:
✅ A communication system – so they actually understand what’s right and wrong.
✅ Clarity – clear expectations so they don’t have to guess.
✅ Boundaries – structure that keeps them accountable.
✅ Leadership – so they can stop making bad choices and start following your guidance.

Because let’s be honest—if your dog could make better choices on their own, they already would be.

But they’re not. They’re lunging. They’re barking. They’re snapping. And if you keep letting them make those bad decisions because you love them—if you keep cuddling them, patting them, and telling them “it’s okay” while they spiral into reactivity—they’re never going to change.

You can love your dog and still be their leader. Structure and boundaries don’t take away from your relationship—they strengthen it.

🔹 You and your partner love each other, but you still respect each other’s space, time, and needs.
🔹 As kids, we followed our parents' leadership. That didn’t mean we hated them—it meant we trusted them to guide us.

Dogs are no different. When they know you’re in charge, they feel safer, more confident, and more connected to you.

A strong leader steps in, provides guidance, and makes sure their dog feels safe every step of the way.

If you want a better relationship with your dog, you need to:
✅ Stop letting them make bad choices.
✅ Step up as their mentor.
✅ Be the leader they need, not just the comfort they want.

Because once you do, they’ll finally start making right decisions on their own.

So if you think love alone is enough—ask yourself, is it working? If not, maybe it’s time to give your dog what they actually need.

17/03/2025

This morning, I had my first personal training session in over six months after injury and pain kept me away. And I broke down and cried in the middle of a set.

Everything felt so much harder than I remembered. My body didn’t move the way I wanted it to. I felt weak, slow, and like I was failing at something that used to feel effortless. And in that moment, I wanted to quit.

But I didn’t. I took a minute, wiped my tears and got back up. I kept going, even though it sucked. And when it was over, I had a meltdown—because starting over is hard. It’s frustrating. It’s overwhelming. And it’s really uncomfortable.

And I know so many of you have felt this exact way with your dogs.

You’ve put in the work. You’ve tried your best. But then a setback happens—your dog reacts, doesn’t listen, struggles with something they used to do well. And suddenly, it feels like you’re back at square one. Like all your progress didn’t matter. Like maybe you’re not cut out for this.

But you are. And you don’t have to do it alone.

That’s why I didn’t give up today. I’ve booked in with my trainer every week because I know I need guidance, accountability, and someone to push me through the discomfort. Because I don’t want to stay where I am—I want to push through and come out stronger.

And that’s exactly what I want for you and your dog.

So moving forward, I’m shifting how I approach our sessions. These aren’t just lessons—they’re coaching sessions. Because training isn’t just about running through the motions. It’s about struggling, learning, adapting, and having someone there to push you when you feel like stopping.

I want to be that person for you. I want to push you through the tough moments, remind you why you started, and celebrate every win—big or small.

Because we all have a choice. We can let the hard moments break us, or we can push through them and come out stronger.

I know which one I’m choosing. What about you?

This week we've welcomed THREE new furry faces and their families to our squad!

🐻 Reggie the Rottie has become very reactive to other dogs on his walks after being attacked last year and with his family having a young child and a second on the way, walking him has become scary and stressful! We'll be helping them and Reggie with weekly Walk & Trains for consistency and positive exposure and teaching structured walking and place training. He's an excitable boy so helping him learn to relax is vital in his training journey

🐰 Big boy Walter the Cattle X is only 1 year old and has lots of energy to burn, often choosing to let it out on his walks by pulling when things catch his attention and reacting to other dogs. His family is also quite time poor with three children so we've created a plan to incorporate training easily into their days, provide appropriate outlets like the flirt pole and teach him structured walking and place training to help him regulate himself and develop an off switch. We'll be helping with weekly Walk & Trains / Lessons!

🐶 Ollie the Jack Russel is almost 2 and is go go go!! He's got lots of energy and likes to lead the way which can get him into trouble when he sees larger dogs as he was attacked by one when he was younger and now reacts to them in defence mode. A big part of his journey will be adding more structure and boundaries to his home life so he can calm down and earn these freedoms back, teaching structured walking so he learns to follow his mums guidance and check in with her, and teaching place training so he can develop an off-switch and regulate his nervous system. We'll be starting fortnightly sessions with Ollie and Lola to assist their mum in her journey!

I've loved meeting these dogs and their families this week and am super excited to help them live a happier, less stressful life together ❤️🐾✨️
