‘Tis the Season of Temptations
Our beloved canine companions may not share the same tolerance for certain holiday foods. There are many potential dangers lurking within our feasts and we need to ensure the well-being of our furry friends.
Some common dangerous Christmas food to look out for includes:
* Ham: can cause inflammation of the pancreas. Symptoms may include vomiting, diarrhoea, and severe abdominal pain.
* Grapes: can cause severe kidney damage in dogs, leading to kidney failure.
* Sweets: Chocolate contains theobromine, which can lead to symptoms like restlessness, vomiting, and seizures. Lollies and sweets can also be dangerous, especially if sweetened with xylitol.
* Xylitol: is a sugar substitute found in many sugar-free products, including some sweets, chewing gum, and baked goods. In dogs, it causes a dangerous drop in blood sugar levels, leading to seizures and even liver failure.
* Food Poisoning: Foods high in fat, spices, or seasoning can lead to gastrointestinal upset, causing vomiting, diarrhea, and discomfort.
