We’ve got ghosts, mummies, bats, witches, Dracula, Chucky and even a very convincing Wednesday Addams… although somehow they’ve all ended up looking more adorable than scary. And just to be clear - the costumes were created with AI, no pets were actually dressed up or forced to wear a costume for these photos. 🤍

Halloween can be fun for us, but for our pets it can mean a lot of unfamiliar sights, sounds and activity. 🎃

Open doors, trick-or-treaters, costumes, decorations and treats can all create extra risks and for some dogs and cats, the noise and change in routine can also feel overwhelming.

A little preparation can make a big difference. Keep treats and decorations out of reach, make sure doors and gates are secure, don’t force costumes, and give nervous pets somewhere quiet and familiar to settle.

And if your pet tends to struggle with stressful situations, supporting them before the event can help them feel more prepared.

How often do you actually brush your dog’s teeth? 🦷

Ideally, every day.

Dental problems can build gradually, often before your dog shows obvious signs that something is wrong. Regular brushing helps manage plaque and supports healthy gums, while things like dental chews can be useful alongside brushing - not instead of it.

If your dog isn’t used to brushing yet, start slowly. Even getting them comfortable with having their mouth handled is a good first step.

And if you notice persistent bad breath, tartar, red gums, difficulty chewing or signs of discomfort, it’s worth having their teeth checked by your vet.

Why does your dog keep scooting their bum across the floor?

It can look funny, but repeated scooting is usually a sign that something is irritating or bothering them.

A**l glands are one possible cause, but soft stools, parasites, allergies, skin irritation or something caught around the area can also play a part.

One thing many owners don’t realise is that stool consistency can matter too. Well-formed stools can help the a**l sacs empty naturally, while regularly soft or loose stools may contribute to problems in some dogs.
So if the scooting keeps happening, don’t just focus on their bottom. Look at the bigger picture - their poo, digestion, skin and behaviour.

If your dog seems uncomfortable or the scooting keeps coming back, it’s worth having your vet investigate what’s causing it.
