โš ๏ธ Posture Changes โš ๏ธ

Widened stance and forward weight shift often indicate joint weakness or compensation ๐Ÿพ This can lead to overloading in the front limbs increasing the risk of further issues.

Strengthening the hind limbs helps improve balance, mobility, and overall joint health ๐Ÿ’ช

Why? Because we want to make sure theyโ€™re not in pain and are ready to get the most out of their sessions ๐Ÿถโœจ

Variety is key and always avoid letting your dog exercise past their point of fatigue as this is when they are most at risk.

Swap in walks, hikes, or brain games alongside short bursts of controlled fetch to give your dog a well-rounded workout and reduce their risk of injury ๐Ÿ™Œ

๐Ÿฆดโœจ Hydrotherapy โœจ๐Ÿฆด

At The Dog Wellness Centre, we use hydrotherapy to help dogs with painful or chronic conditions move safely and comfortably. By adjusting water height and speed, we create a supportive environment that allows controlled weight-bearing on weak or sore limbs ๐Ÿ’ง๐Ÿพ

The buoyancy of water makes movement easier than on land, helping your dog maintain healthy muscle to support their joints without added strain. Itโ€™s a kind, effective way to strengthen and heal โค๏ธ

๐Ÿ’› Protecting Joints ๐Ÿ’›

Arthritis isnโ€™t just an โ€œold dogโ€ condition and be sure to question anyone who tells you that. It can set in much earlier than expected and cause serious discomfort for your dog.

You can help your dog avoid pain by paying attention to the following:

Doโ€™s โœ…

-Keep them lean to reduce joint stress
-Choose the right amount, intensity, and type of exercise
-Monitor joints for heat and swelling

Donโ€™tโ€™s โŒ

-Donโ€™t over-exercise into fatigue
-Donโ€™t ignore early signs of pain

Dogs who have been diagnosed with osteoarthritis can live sucessfully with the condition. But you need to learn certain things to help maintain their mobility.

My digitial course is available to teach you the key areas and how to monitor them along with education on home exercies and massage. Plus a whole heap more....

It is for proactive owners looking to take their knowledge to the next level to support their dogs musculoskeletal system.

If this is you, comment Ready and I'll send you an invite to join๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿผ

Gentle, fun and intentional movement is great for establishing physical strength, proprioception and confidence in puppies. Just keep it easy and your training sessions short!

โœ… Sloppy sits โœ…

Does your dogโ€™s sit look sloppy, with legs splayed out to the side?

If theres no underlying issues, a tidy sit isnโ€™t just cute,itโ€™s important for healthy hips, knees, and posture! ๐Ÿ•๐Ÿฆด

Start with simple exercises at home to help your pup learn to tuck their legs neatly underneath them to help keep their muscles balanced.

Donโ€™t have the same equipment at home? No worries!

You might have something like this little stool lying around that works just as well for your dogโ€™s exercise.

โœจ Harness Training 101 โœจ

Introducing a new harness? Start with training your dog to feel confident and comfortable wearing it.

๐Ÿ”‘ Key Tips:
โœ”๏ธ Keep sessions short
โœ”๏ธ Watch your dogโ€™s body language
โœ”๏ธ Always go at their pace

Step 1 ๐Ÿพ
Let your dog sniff and explore the harness, then reward with treats! ๐Ÿ—

Step 2 ๐Ÿพ
With a treat in hand, pass your arm through the head hole and let your dog take the treat.

Step 3 ๐Ÿพ
Gradually bring the treat closer to the head hole. Go slow and reward often. ๐Ÿ—

โ— If your dog shows signs of stress, pause and give them more time. Donโ€™t rush it. โ—

Step 4 ๐Ÿพ (as shown in the video)
Lure your dogโ€™s nose through the head hole & reward! ๐Ÿ—

Step 5 ๐Ÿพ
Once theyโ€™re confidently offering their nose, begin moving the treat further away to encourage them to fully push their head through.

Not all dogs suit an over-the-head harness, but if yours does, this is a great way to get them started! ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿถ
