Never a dull moment on the farm at Highland View, we have been blessed with three beautiful bull calves, Bonnie, Skye and Paisley are doing a wonderful job at being mums.

Peonies have bloomed, although the plants and blooms are only small due to being their first year after splitting them down and replanting, we are really happy with how they are coming along.

We received much needed rains this past week over 100ml, fingers crossed this fills out our wheat nicely to finish it off ready to harvest in the new year.

Today we welcomed some new residents to the farm, fingers crossed they like their new homes and enjoy the place like all the other pets, I mean farm animals ๐Ÿคช๐ŸŒบ๐ŸŒพ๐Ÿ‚๐ŸŒง๏ธ๐ŸŒฆ๏ธ๐Ÿ“๐Ÿ“๐ŸŒž

Busy times at Highland View lately.

Spring has sprung, the daffs have bloomed and gone thanks to the unwanted resident hares. The peonies are well and truely on their way,
Iโ€™ve been busy mowing around them and spreading lime, hoping it gives them a little boost before flowering.
The Wheat and silage paddocks are holding on ok, now itโ€™s finally dry enough to spread fert and spray we can get those jobs done and hope for good yields and enough bales to keep the highlands happy.
Our four highland heifers are due to drop very soon, Iโ€™ve been watching very closely for movement everyday, Iโ€™m sure it will happen in good time.
Lambing has finished with a total of 74 lambs, hopefully the lush spring feed helps them along ready for sale, huge thanks to Will, Babette & Dad for helping landmark and getting the sheep all sorted.
Iโ€™m learning with Marty away harvesting, there doesnโ€™t seem to be enough hours in the day to achieve all the jobs and in farming there is always something that gets in the way of a good plan.
Nevertheless we soldier on and get up the next day and do what we didnโ€™t get done the day before (or try to anyway).

Watch this space for fluffy highland babies spam

Update from Highland View - a bit of a long one!

A few days of crazy mass destructive weather across our little old Tassie and our little farm is looking worse for wear along with many others out there, however all can be fixed sorted in time.

Our wheat crop is very soggy and in parts flooded from the rise in the Liffey River, hopefully it bounces back ok.

Our first lamb was born in the middle of this crazy weather on Saturday, we were sure wouldnโ€™t survive the weekend, but the first time Hampy ewe mum knew how to look after her baby just fine.

If you can remember a few months ago we planted copious amounts of peonies, we split them down from plants into smaller rootstock. These little beauties have made their way out of the ground and are coming along nicely, we are hoping that even though some are slightly water logged they proceed to flourish and grow.
I was late planting the daffodils this year, even so they have proved me wrong and have popped up in a short time, fingers crossed for some sunshine and blooms soon.

Our Highland cattle are happy and our four heifers are coming along nicely, we are excited to have little fluffy babies join the fold real soon.

Thereโ€™s never a dull moment in farming, but doing what you love and enjoy makes for a brighter day.

The new Highlands have settled in with their friends at the farm, they are enjoying the silage to eat and to sleep in.
If you remember from my post a couple of weeks ago with the Peony flowers, we have them all in the ground now just over 300, hereโ€™s to hoping they all survive and thrive here at Highland View.
The last few weeks have been busy fencing and putting in drainage before we get some rain.
They say when you have a farm you wonโ€™t get a spare minute and I think that couldnโ€™t be a truer statement. ๐ŸŒท๐Ÿ‘๐ŸŒพ๐Ÿšœ๐Ÿ‚โ›ฐ๏ธ๐ŸŒป๐ŸŒž

What a weekend, firstly a trip to Latrobe to collect our Peony plants 140 of them, a busy week ahead for me on the farm, can not wait to get these beauties in the ground. ๐ŸŒท a shout out to Andrew & Andrea at Heathermoor Peonies for helping me out with these.

Today was a big one, a road trip south to saltwater river. Meet Isla, Freya & Effie, so beautiful with great personalities, they are the final piece to our little highland fold.
Welcome to Highland View girls and your new home at the Liffey River Stud. ๐Ÿด๓ ง๓ ข๓ ณ๓ ฃ๓ ด๓ ฟ

Sheep work with a view! All our girls have now been shorn. We are very happy how they have come out of the wool, considering the feed hasnโ€™t been about the past couple of months.
