This girl is Devine !
Check out that mane 🥰😍

This girls here to start under saddle, I’m already impressed with how quick she is learning in only a few days of work .
She’s flexing extremely well she’s become very soft and does an amazing job with pressure release .
A little worried sometimes and over reactive but coming down nice .
I love working with the “busy minded” souls .

She’s smart I can’t wait to back her 😍
Especially can’t wait to see her under saddle with her owner ❤️

Hey HH followers - soooo it’s been a while right ?
My apologies for not keeping any updates going along since this horrible virus that’s been holding us all down !
But in saying that - it’s been nothing but fun with horses these past few months !
So much has happened so I’ll be slowly putting posts up to get back on track and I’m sorry 🙊 for all the horses 🐴 blocking up your news feed. 😂🤣
I’ll start with my own girl tonight!
This doesn’t look like much (but it’s a milestone and a half for this girl)
She’s nervy - she’s anxious - she doesn’t trust easy .

•WILLOW•
Gosh I love this girl!
A big thing for me when you train a horse is firstly getting their legs touched - starting front to rear.
I like to put a hand on them all over their legs and using the “make the wrong thing hard , right thing easy” approach
They aren’t silly - and the more you do it every day - they better they will be.
it’s basic training but I’m positive your farrier will love you for making sure you do it.
So here’s a little video of this girl who would NOT let you touch her rear legs (she had the farrier do her rears today) so for someone besides me to be able to get a hand on those rear legs really shows it’s worth it- I’m extremely proud of this girl - you’ll notice the off side she stomped it down but I made sure I picked it back up and she let “me” put it down with no resistance and in my time not hers🐴

This girls come a long way since starting under saddle . Today she had her first ride with her owner .. safe to say they are a great pair !!!

This makes me happy !
Love to see the first reactions of them sitting on their horse ! 🐴

Also Rae had a great little bond session with our dear Bobby!
He’s a beaut horse for many learners (thanks mum Dee Dixon Downey for letting bobby be our lesson dude)

When I start c**ts, I make a point to move all over them, rubbing up their necks, back on their hindquarters and behind their tails, I slap my hands against my legs, I take my hat off and wave it in the air, I do anything I can think of to start getting those c**ts broke to me moving around on them. From day one, I want a c**t to know that it’s completely normal to feel a human moving on his back and to see and hear a variety of objects above his eye level.

The worst thing you can do on a c**t or any horse is to sit like a closed pocket knife, never moving out of position. The one day that you do need to move – you need to reach down and open a gate, a friend hands you a bottle of water, or you wave to someone – your horse will dump you on your head because you’ve never prepared him to see you moving on his back like that. Horses get good at whatever we allow them to practice. - Clinton

When you take your horse to a new environment, spend as long as it takes practicing groundwork exercises with him before you get on his back. There's no sense in getting on a horse that's using the reactive side of his brain. It only leads to trouble and frustration for the both of you. - Clinton

This girl was with me for handling and float training a while back - she came back to start under saddle !
What can I say ! She is amazing
Connemara ponies are the most giving and “in your face” affectionate little things and I love that!
She is willing and eager to please !
This girl will go places in the right hands she will be a stunner in the show ring!

From her first ride to now - only a few rides under her and I can feel a massive improvement in her . She has the ability to keep what she has learnt on board and doesn’t forget- she picks straight back up where we left !
Super happy with this girl - almost ready to head home for a few months horsey time then back into the swing of things !

I do this so they don’t become sour ! They need a break to realise it’s not all work all the time!
I find the adapt to saddle life much easier and willingly. Unfortunately so many rush into getting them under saddle and can become quite sour in the process !
Give them time to adapt to it all.

Everyone trains differently!

There is always room to improve and learn!

Absolutely!
I have a few client horses here and I am extremely grateful that they understand and appreciate that I have given their horses a break due to this reason.
It’s not healthy and it can be extremely dangerous for the horses and for myself to be exposed in this smoke and weather .

Thank you to these beautiful clients for understanding that their horses Health comes first .
(Also even though this smoke is dreadful I bet the horses are grateful for the break)

Stay safe everyone !

❤️

Happy New Year. We hope those of you in fire-affected areas are safe.

With so many regions smoke affected and listening to health warnings for humans and asthmatics on the news, many are concerned for their horses' respiratory health.

Here are a few tips that may be helpful during and after smoke inhalation.

100 percent ! This is why I always tell my clients when they come to pick up their horses - you must keep up the work to keep the horse going . I am 100 percent committed and the reason why i get the owners to come over and ride their horses is because I show them what I have been doing and give them all support after they take them home!

I’m along for the whole journey - not just the breaking process or the retraining.
I will help every step .

Have any of you purchased a well trained horse that just made you feel like a million bucks when you handled and rode him? Were you 110% in love and trusted this horse knowing he would never put a foot wrong under saddle or on the ground? Did you maintain his training by continuing to do lesson's with a trainer and or have a trainer ride your new horse to keep him tuned up? No? You mean you just brought this horse home and thought with all his training he is just programmed to be good (great even) all the time and never go back to the young testy horse he once was?

Let me tell you about the story of when I got my truck detailed. I paid big bucks to send my truck to a guy who spent 6 hours on cleaning the interior polishing the the dash and conditioning the leather seats. He washed/waxed and buffed all the paint, and he shined up my wheels and tires. Pretty sure that truck wasn’t that clean and shiny when I drove it off the lot brand new. My truck was beautiful. For awhile I took my shoes off before I got in and I wouldn’t leave garbage behind, I even vacuumed it and wiped down the dash and seats. Then I started to get busy and just drive my truck because well let’s be honest I had to use it. I didn’t stop to clean it once a week quite honestly not even once a month 🤦🏼‍♀️. My beautiful shiney like new truck had dog hair on the floor, trash in the door pockets, dust on the dash and mud all over the wheel wells! Had I took the time to clean it like I was in the beginning, the truck would have stayed clean and beautiful like it was when it was returned from the detailer.

You see folks our horses are the same way. If we don’t constantly keep up training our horses won’t stay the same or improve. If we don’t train a little everyday (yup, every single day) or at least one good professional ride or lesson a week, we can back track so quickly. Your amazing new boy might try and bite you and maybe even think he’s going to buck you off during his circles. We want to get mad at the horse when they behave this way but you have to think in your mind “have I done my job as his handler?”
Make sure their ground manners are good, halter them everyday even if you just have time to feed them. Work with a trainer once a week and maintain the animal someone or maybe even yourself poured endless hours of blood sweat tears and dreams into. Someone believed in your horse, you owe it to them to keep that horse going correctly.
