Trust is not a small thing when it comes from a horse.

In weeks one and two, many of our young people begin to realise something powerful: this large, sensitive animal is choosing to let them in.

The horse allows them to come close, to brush, to lead, to move together, and to share space. A horse could easily say no. They could walk away. But when a young person learns to be kind, calm, generous and clear, the horse often responds with trust.

By week three, many participants are leading their horse through obstacles, learning about herd behaviour, and discovering that trust is built through small, respectful moments.

At HWYP, we honour the quiet courage of our horses — and the courage of the young people learning how to become safe, positive leaders beside them.

LEST WE FORGET: Australia remembers the thousands of loyal "Waler" horses that served in WWI.
ANZAC day we honour the hundreds of soldiers and reflect upon their courage and the sacrifices they made for our country. And our brave horses that served in the heat of battle.

Australian horses were an integral part of the allied arm forces in WWI, serving at Gallipoli, Egypt, Palestine and on the Western Front. The Light Horse cavalry assisted in the transportation of weapons,supplies and wounded soldiers carrying heavy loads in harsh conditions. Over 136,000 Australian Horses were sent to theatres of war between 1914 and 1918, with only one returning home. Faithful to the end. We will remember them.
