DOG BEHAVIOUR TIP from dog whisperer Kathy Kathy's Dog Training & Behaviour Consulting
Do you have a dog that has an innate tendency to arouse very quickly in response to any external stimuli?
Common triggers are knocking on the door, doorbell ringing, people walking past the house, neighbour potting around in their backyard, another dog barking (even if they’re a number of houses away!).
They're excitable individuals that don’t need convincing to react vocally and often remain on a high sometime after the event.
They're on patrol behaviour has you thinking they’re the fun police towards any noises in the environment.
When they’re in a highly aroused state, it’s not surprising that they don’t readily respond to you in a timely fashion if at all for that matter.
They’re unable to think in a reliable and prompt way like they normally do when they’re relaxed.
The cognitive part of their brain is temporarily disengaged.
Do your best to be two steps in front of your dog if they're busy characters.
With good behaviour modification strategies combined with sensible management, you can keep this busy behaviour under control.
