On behalf of Phil’s wife Jennifer, his family and the employees of Rational Nutrition, it is with deep sadness we wish to announce the sudden passing of Phil following a motor vehicle accident.

Phil is well known for his dedication to the Boggabri community through his many years of commitment and service to the Boggabri Lions Club and charitable donations to many local organisations.

His contribution to the wider community is immense, holding long standing positions on the boards of the Motor Neurone Disease Association, Lion’s NSW-ACT Save Sight and Public Healthcare Foundation and Sydney Eye Hospital Foundation.

Phil was a generous man with incredible knowledge who lived an extraordinary life - RAAF Pilot, Wildlife trainer, Police Detective, Veterinarian, Husband, Father and Friend.

Cases of Bovine Ephemeral Fever (BEF), or three day sickness have been reported in the north west region, up near the QLD border. Cases will likely spread southward over the coming weeks.

🐮 This viral disease is spread by biting insects such as mosquitos. It causes a fever, followed by drooling, lameness and a reluctance to eat or drink. Affected animals often lie down and refuse to move. The signs are usually short lived, hence the name “Three day sickness”. Heavier animals tend to be more severely affected, and the effects of the virus can cause abortions in pregnant cattle.

Affected animals benefit from nursing care – provision of shade, feed and water, being rolled over to prevent muscle and nerve damage – as well as the administration of calcium and anti-inflammatory medications.

💉 Vaccination is available to prevent infection – two doses are required. There are currently shortages of the BEF vaccine, so contact your supplier to ensure you are on the waiting list.
