🐦 Bird Flu Update – Helping Wildlife Safely

With recent bird flu detections in Australia, we want our community to know that we are still here to help injured and unwell wildlife.

If you find an injured bird, please call us first before bringing them into the clinic. This allows our team to triage over the phone, prepare the appropriate PPE and biosecurity measures, and guide you on the safest next steps.

We may ask you to wait outside with the bird rather than bringing them straight into the clinic, so we can safely prepare our space and protect our team, clients, patients and the wider community.

Please avoid direct contact with sick or dead birds where possible, and report concerning cases to the Emergency Animal Disease Hotline on 1800 675 888.

Together, we can continue caring for wildlife while keeping everyone safe. 💙

🧀🐾 Elliott had one priority today… cheese. 🐾🧀

Elliott came in to see us for lip fold pyoderma, a common skin infection that can occur in the folds of the lower lip in breeds like Golden Retrievers, Labradors, and Cocker Spaniels. These warm, moist skin folds can trap saliva and bacteria, leading to irritation, redness, and infection.

Luckily for Elliott, our cheese-covered lick mat was far more interesting than the medical discussion. 😌🧀

Using treats and lick mats during consults helps keep many patients calm, distracted, and creates a more positive experience at the vet. And judging by this face… we’d say it was a success. 💛🐶

🐾💛 A little comfort before the big day 💛🐾

We know a visit to the vet can be a little overwhelming, so our nurses take every opportunity to help patients feel calm, safe, and reassured before their procedure. Sometimes, a cuddle is just what they need 💛🐶

Our team is currently learning a new practice management software system, which means things may take us a little longer than usual while we get comfortable with the change.

We’re doing our best to keep everything running smoothly, but you may notice some small delays at reception, during bookings, payments, or while we navigate patient records in the new system.

We kindly ask for your patience and understanding as our team learns the ropes. Please be kind to our staff — they are working hard, supporting each other, and doing their best to continue providing great care for you and your pets. 🐾💙

🌟 Meet Us Monday – Jess 🌟

This week, we’re excited to introduce another one of our new nurses, Jess! 🐾💙

We first met Jess during her work placement about six months ago, and it didn’t take long for her to make an impression. Her positive attitude, compassion, and eagerness to learn made her a perfect fit for our team, and we’re so happy she’s now officially part of the West Blacktown Vet family.

Jess is currently completing her Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing, and we’re proud to support her as she continues to build her skills and work towards her goals. She has already shown incredible promise, and we’re excited to watch her confidence and knowledge grow.
