Once I realised the power of getting into sports with a dog and doing ‘silly tricks’ I knew I had to bring this to clients.
Those who are deep in the sports world & truly understand both human & dog behaviour, see these things everyday.
The first sport I brought to clients was scent work - like any ANKC sport or any niche really, it can take knowing people doing the thing and talking to them to really understand all their is to know about it beyond just the rules. Even getting through the admin side of things can be confusing and feel impossible if you don’t know where to start or what to do. This is why I will always extend this to my clients and be someone they can message or reach out to for resources because nothing makes me happier than seeing you & your dogs thrive!
We now cover several sports between 1 on 1 training, fulfilment walks and group classes including tricks, rally obedience, dockdogs, sprint dog, lure pursuit and more!
Let me get gushy for a second - I still remember a night after I’d wrapped up a scent work class, one of our very first blocks and was cleaning up dog food in the hall; I could hear chatter outside. I look out the window and see our small group out in the cold, in a not very well lit carpark, standing around chatting together instead of heading straight home & in that moment I knew I’d achieved exactly what I was hoping to. Building a community of likeminded dog owners who want the best for their dogs and who will support each other through every step. This particular group still trains together, goes on regular walks together and even plan their interstate dog sport trips together!
It’s easy to over look when there’s so much to learn and things that feel too far into the unknown but I can, from personal experience & seeing clients & their dogs thrive, attest to how worthwhile it is. You don’t need a ‘special’ type of dog or even an extremely well trained one for some sports, you just need to get started. But be warned once you start - it might be hard to stop 😉
