“My dog’s not food motivated”

From feeling unsure to being in pain, understanding your dog’s needs can make all the difference.

Dogs might turn down food for lots of reasons:

😰 They’re unsure or worried
😁 They’re too excited
🍗 They’re already full
🤢 They’re feeling unwell
🤕 They’re sore or uncomfortable
🥵 They’re hot
🥱 They're tired

If your dog doesn’t take food, pause and ask: what might they need instead?

When I was in Melbourne with Clem, I made a point of practising Wait at the doorways of our accommodation.

Why? Because dogs don’t automatically understand that a behaviour learned in one place applies everywhere. If your dog only ever practises Wait at the kitchen door, they may not realise it also means wait at the front gate, a farm gate, or even the kerb of a busy street. Context becomes part of the cue!

By working on behaviours in different environments, you’re helping your dog generalise their learning. This means the skill becomes stronger, more reliable, and truly useful in daily life.

For me, Wait is one of those essential life skills:
✨ At the front door when visitors arrive
✨ At the front gate before heading out
✨ At the kerb if there's traffic
✨ Getting out of the car

Practising in new places doesn’t have to take long—just a few seconds here and there builds the habit. Clem and I often weave these little training moments into our day, whether we’re at home, travelling, or out exploring.

Let's start the week with some joy!

After 17 days on the road together, Clem and I are home, and this time I was ready to record the homecoming!🐾💜

Arlo and Clem have such a special bond. The moment they spotted each other, it was all tail wags, wiggly bodies, and happy circles.

Pure joy at being reunited.

Watching these two greet each other was a lovely reminder of how deeply our dogs can feel, and how meaningful their relationships are—not just with us, but with each other, too.

What if your dog could smell rabbits, or roos, cats, or deer…… and stay calm?

Did you know you can teach calmness through scent?

This is a scent rock + lickmat combo. It’s a super simple way to teach your dog to associate chase triggers—like rabbit scent—with calm instead of chaos.

This kind of enrichment:

✔️ Reduces reactivity
✔️ Can help dogs stay calmer on walks

This simple exercise helps reduce excitement on walks when your dog encounters an animal odour.

Try this at home with your dog’s specific chase trigger scent.

Let your dog sniff, then lick to calm.

Clem (13 months, Golden Retriever) + Duke (19 months, Australian Shepherd) = pure playdate goals 🐾💛

These two don’t just play—they practise communication, take turns, and learn how to read each other’s signals. Every zoomie, wrestle, and pause is a lesson in social smarts.

Playdates like this are more than just fun (though they’re definitely that too!). They help dogs build confidence, improve their body language skills, and form healthy social habits that last a lifetime.

Tag your dog’s bestie and tell us—
Who’s the bigger goofball in your duo? 😂👇
