Welcome to the Berri Barmera Council official Lost and Found Pets page! We have created this page as an interactive site where the public can see and hear about the animals that have been seized by Council. Council also intends to use this page to attempt to re-home any animals that Council has been unable to find the original owners. Only Berri Barmera Council Lost and Found Pets adminis

trators are able to post to the page. Please note that relevant posts will be deleted once each animal is no longer under Council’s care. Council recognises that the support from a broad cross section of the community will be required to ensure that the objectives of this page are achieved and your assistance is sincerely appreciated.

South Australia is heading for a scorcher of a long weekend - and with temps tipped to climb above 40°C tomorrow, it’s crucial we keep our pets and local wildlife safe. 🐰🐨🐦

We've already seen a rise in heat‑related cruelty reports this summer, often involving animals without shade or water, or left in dangerously hot cars.

A few simple actions make a huge difference.

👉 Provide constant shade and bring pets indoors to cool, air‑conditioned spaces
👉 Keep multiple water sources topped up (add ice if you can)
👉 Avoid car travel and never leave animals in vehicles
👉 Skip walks during the heat of the day
👉 Leave shallow water bowls and filled bird baths out for wildlife.

Your choices can save lives during extreme heat. 💙

📞 In an emergency, please call us on 1300 477 722.

And, a big thank you to Showpony for creating this impactful graphic for us.

It's forecasted to be a warm week ahead - Just remember your pets feel the heat too! ☀️
🔹Provide pets with a cool, shaded area with good ventilation, plenty of clean fresh water and extra water sources in case of spillage
🔸Do not exercise animals in heat (exercise first thing in the morning or late in evening when cool)
🔹Do not leave your dog in vehicles
🔸Pets can get heat stroke too – signs include panting, lethargy, drooling and fever. If you think your pet may be affected call your vet.

LEASH UP for dog’s sake! 🌳
Council has designated off-leash areas for obedient dogs, like parks and some beaches at certain times but these are always marked by signage. AND your dog must be under ‘effective control’ which means your dog must remain close to you, within your sight at all times and will return to you when called the first time. Dogs that aren’t under effective control in these situations can attract fines for their handlers/owners. If you don’t see a sign don’t do it and if you can’t control your dog, don’t risk it.

Did you know? 🐾
In South Australia, you must keep your dog on a leash no longer than 2 metres unless in an area marked by council signage (some parks and some beach areas). If your dog is off leash in an approved area marked by signage, it must stay close to you, within your sight and return to you on the first call. Learn more >> https://bit.ly/3nHaZR7
