Did you know dogs worked as guards, messengers, saved lives and were also companion animals in WWI?

Sometimes dogs were used to carry important messages when telephone links or wireless failed. A message was secured in a canister attached to the dog’s collar. The dogs were trained to operate in the noise and chaos of battle, and they could move quickly around shell holes and through trenches.

Many dogs were later adopted as mascots and pets 🐶

🐶Dog Grooming Tips for a Happy & Healthy Pup!🐶

Keeping your dog well-groomed is essential for their health and happiness. Here are some simple tips to keep your pup looking and feeling great:

- Regular Brushing: Helps prevent mats and tangles and keeps their coat shiny! Brush your dog at least once a week.
- Bathing: Dogs should be bathed regularly, but not too often. Aim for every 4-6 weeks unless they get especially dirty!
- Nail Care: Trim your dog's nails regularly to avoid discomfort and potential injury.
- Ear Cleaning: Check your dog's ears weekly to keep them clean and infection-free.
- Teeth Brushing: Keep their smile healthy! Regular brushing prevents plaque and bad breath.

Bonus Tip: If your dog has long hair, consider taking them to a professional groomer to keep their coat in top shape!

Grooming not only keeps your dog looking good but also helps detect potential health issues early.

🎙Attention Pet Parents!🎙

Did you know that chocolate is toxic to dogs? 🍫
While it might be a delicious treat for us, chocolate can cause serious harm to our furry friends.

The culprit? Theobromine and caffeine, which are both harmful to dogs and can lead to symptoms like:
• Vomiting
• Diarrhea
• Increased heart rate
• Tremors or seizures
• Restlessness or hyperactivity

The toxicity varies depending on the type of chocolate and your dog’s size, but even small amounts of dark or baking chocolate can be dangerous.

If you suspect your dog has ingested chocolate, you can check on the below chocolate calculator if they need to be seen by a vet, you can call the Poisons Hotline on 1300 869 738 or call your local vet for advice. It’s better to be safe than sorry!

Pro Tip: Keep all chocolate, especially holiday treats, out of your pet’s reach!
Stay safe and keep your furry friends happy and healthy!

🐦New Feathers, New Beginnings!🐦

Moulting season is here! As our feathered friends shed old feathers and grow in fresh ones, it’s important to remember that this natural process is a sign of renewal and health.

Healthy feathers are a reflection of a bird’s overall well-being, and there are some keyways you can support your bird during this time:

- Nutrition: A balanced diet filled with fresh fruits, vegetables, and high-quality pellets helps promote strong, vibrant feathers.
- Hydration: Make sure your bird has access to fresh water every day.
- Comfort: Provide a stress-free environment to ensure your bird’s moult goes smoothly.
- Preening: Encourage preening behaviour to help your bird care for its new feathers.

If you notice excessive feather loss, discomfort, or other unusual signs during moult, please book a check-up with Dr Susan. We're here to help your bird stay healthy and happy through every feathered transition!

Dr Susan was thrilled to be asked to speak at the Bendigo Business Excellence Awards media launch this morning.
Dr Susan said -
“I remember very clearly the first time our business was nominated - I still don’t know who it was! - and how proud I was that our clients thought we were doing such a great job, and how proud our whole team were to be so publicly acknowledged.”
It’s really easy to nominate - so we would encourage everyone to nominate any business doing great things in Strathfieldsaye and surrounds!!
