This horse was sore through the girth, neck, and hyoid region.

I treated the tuber coxae and helped improve comfort through all three areas. The body works as one connected system.

This horse was sore through the hyoid, girth, and hamstrings.

The hyoid can have a huge impact on the entire body, affecting comfort, posture, and movement

Once the restriction was released, you could see the change almost immediately.

The horse’s body works as one connected system… and this video is a great example of that

This is an older clip of me using a tool around the base of the neck, but I wasn’t actually targeting the neck itself — I was working on hamstring restriction.

The body compensates through connected muscles and fascia patterns from head to tail, so sometimes the area reacting the most isn’t the true source of the problem.

Over the years I’ve gone back to a more hands-on approach because it allows me to feel changes as they happen and adapt the treatment to what the horse needs in the moment.

One thing that hasn’t changed though:
The body is connected, compensation patterns matter, and often the biggest improvements happen when you stop chasing the symptom and start looking at the whole horse

And yes… I’m very sorry I touched it a couple too many times.

Most people treat where the horse reacts.

But the real problem is often somewhere else.

This horse was sore through the poll, hyoid, girth, and had extremely tight hamstrings.

I treated the scapula and you could see the change in comfort almost immediately.

Demystifying Kissing Spines:
What Horse Owners Need to Know

Introduction:
Kissing spines – it's a term that can send shivers down the spine of any horse owner. But what exactly is it, and how can you navigate it? Let's dive in and demystify this condition.

What are Kissing Spines?
Kissing spines, or scientifically known as dorsal spinous process impingement, is a condition that affects a horse's spine. At its core, it occurs when the bony processes along a horse's back come into contact or "kiss," causing pain and discomfort.

Causes and Risk Factors:
Understanding the potential causes and risk factors is vital. While it can be congenital, it often develops due to poor saddle fit, incorrect training techniques, or the horse's conformation. Identifying these factors is key to prevention.

Recognizing Symptoms:
Kissing spines can manifest in various ways, and recognizing the symptoms is crucial. Look out for behavioral changes, reluctance to engage in work, gait abnormalities, and signs of pain during saddling or riding. Your horse might be trying to tell you something.

Diagnosis and Veterinary
Involvement:
When you suspect kissing spines, don't hesitate to consult a veterinarian. They'll use imaging techniques like X-rays or ultrasound to diagnose the condition accurately. Early detection can significantly improve your horse's prognosis.

Treatment Options:
Treatment options vary based on the severity of the condition. Conservative approaches include rest, physical therapy, and modified training. In more severe cases, surgical intervention might be necessary. Your vet will help determine the best course of action.

Prevention is Key:
Preventing kissing spines is far easier than treating it. Ensure your horse's saddle fits correctly, and employ proper training techniques that encourage a healthy back. Regular bodywork and veterinary chiropractic checkups are essential.

Maintaining Your Horse’s Health:
The Role of Touch TherapyLearning Touch Therapy can be an invaluable skill for horse owners, helping to maintain your horse's comfort and well-being between veterinary chiropractic sessions. Regular use of this gentle, hands-on approach can support your horse’s spine health and overall performance.

Watch the Transformation: Touch Therapy in ActionCheck out the Touch Therapy demonstration in the video below to see how this technique can alleviate pain and improve mobility in a horse with a sore back. Witness the difference it can make and consider incorporating this technique into your horse care routine.

Conclusion:
Kissing spines may sound daunting, but armed with knowledge, you can navigate it effectively. Remember, early detection, appropriate treatment, and proactive prevention are your allies in ensuring your horse's comfort and well-being.

Most horses don’t suddenly become sore overnight.
The body will often compensate long before you notice a performance issue.

This horse was carrying tension from head to tail, affecting comfort and movement through the entire body.

After releasing the restrictions, you could really notice the difference in comfort and softness.
