WE’RE HIRING 🐴🐾

Canberra Stockfeeds is growing, and with some team roles evolving, we’re looking for an extra set of hands in the shop.

We’re hiring a Part-Time / Casual Sales Assistant for around 3 days per week.

This role will include a mix of:

🌾 Helping customers in store
📞 Answering phones and customer enquiries
🧾 Processing orders, sales and payments
💻 General admin tasks
🐴 Helping customers with feed and product choices
📦 Restocking shelves
💪 Loading and carrying feed bags
🧹 Keeping the shop organised and running smoothly

We’re looking for someone who is:

✅ Over 18
✅ Available weekends and some weekdays
✅ Friendly, reliable and practical
✅ Confident talking to customers
✅ Organised and happy to help with admin
✅ Able to safely lift 20kg feed bags and hay
✅ Interested in animals, horses, poultry or rural supplies

A forklift licence is highly desirable, but not essential for the right person.

Retail, admin, horse, farming or animal experience would be a bonus, but attitude and reliability matter most.

📍 Location: Canberra Stockfeeds, Hall ACT
⏰ Hours: Approx. 3 days per week
📅 Weekend availability required

Interesting dental details 🦷 🐴

You may have heard during your horse’s dental with us that they have caries in their mouth - here is a quick explanation of what we are talking about! 🦷🪥

Infundibular caries are a progressive condition, and are similar to cavities in humans. Over time, they can go deeper and deeper into the tooth and can weaken the tooth to the point where it fractures and may need extraction. To help us track changes over time and assess risk of fracture, we grade caries from grade 1-4.

As prey animals, horses are very good at hiding dental issues until there is a problem like a fracture, snotty nose or weight loss. This is one of the reasons why routine dental examinations by a veterinarian, with sedation and proper tools are so important. Early detection allows us to monitor closely and intervene if necessary before these problems arise to keep your horse happy and healthy 🐴❤️

“The honour. The service. They will never be forgotten.”

These were the words of a grieving father as he paid tribute to his daughter, Lance Bombardier Ciara Sullivan, after the tragic accident that claimed her life at the Royal Windsor Horse Show.

Just 24 years old, Ciara had moments earlier been doing what she loved most — riding with The King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery, serving with pride alongside the horses and regiment she dedicated her life to. Friends, family, and fellow soldiers have described her as fearless, compassionate, immensely talented, and a bright light to everyone around her.

She was more than a soldier. She was a horsewoman, an instructor, a teammate, and a daughter whose passion for horses began in childhood and carried her all the way to the ceremonial heart of Britain’s armed forces.

Her loss has deeply shaken both the military and equestrian communities, serving as a heartbreaking reminder of the risks these riders face every time they enter the saddle.

Tonight, many across the country are remembering not only her service, but the courage, dedication, and love for horses that defined her life.

Rest in peace, Gunner.

Yoga for horse owners on Sundays @ Canberra Stockfeeds - Powered by Neigh Hay !

Horse owners spend so much time looking after everyone else - our horses, our families, our work - that we often forget to look after ourselves too.

So we’re really excited to be teaming up with Courtney Grant from Embodied Horsemanship to bring you Yoga for Horse Owners every second Sunday at Canberra Stockfeeds. 🧘‍♀️🐴

These sessions are designed specifically for horse people, with a focus on mobility, balance, breathing, nervous system regulation and body awareness - all the things that influence how we move, ride, communicate and show up for our horses.

Importantly, this isn’t about being “good at yoga.” It’s about creating more awareness in your body and developing practical tools that support your horsemanship.

📍 Canberra Stockfeeds, 1 Victoria Street, Hall
🕓 Sundays at 4pm
💲 $20 per session

Our first session kicks off Sunday 31st May, followed by fortnightly sessions throughout the year.

No experience needed - just bring yourself and a mat 🤍
