What is this snake doing here? 🤔

Now the colder months are setting in and warmth is getting harder to secure, snakes will sometimes decide to snuggle up into warmer areas such as a cars engine bay to absorb the warmth that it has produced making it an ideal spot for them.

Usually they will make their way on their own once it cools, but sometimes they take a longer nap like this one did. If that happens what do you do?

WHAT'S COMING 👀

Winter may be closing in, but that doesn't mean snakes will be completely gone! ❄️

In Australia, snakes don't go into hibernation, they enter brumation. While slightly similar, the difference is that in brumation, they will still be active, coming out to enjoy the sun, drink and on a rare occasion eat!

Yesterday I attended a rescue for an Eastern Brown Snake that was on the edge of the road in Greta, thanks to an amazing person who reached out for assistance when it was discovered!

Unfortunately the snake had sustained critical injuries and passed away not long before I could arrive..

What i want to talk about is the fact that so many people will quickly slow down and avoid pot holes, yet people often fail to do that for our wildlife, and some people even aiming for the animals on purpose!

I don't know the situation of how this occurred whether intentional or not, but if you hit an animal, pull over and check on it. If its a potentionally dangerous animal (snake) contact a rescue organisation such as WIRES, Hunter wildlife rescue or private snake catchers.

Yesterday I had a call for an unknown snake hiding around/in the electrical box in Morriset.

After a quick inspection I could immediately tell what it was!

After undoing a few screws i was able to access the snake and get it back to its own environment.

I had a callout to Bolwarra for a snake in a bathroom.

when I arrived, it ended up hiding in a rolled up towel used to block the door! 🚪

thankfully I searched the towel first and found it right away.

The common tree snake always looks as if its up to something in my opinion 👀. In this case, it thought like it'd be fun to go through some garden netting, likely looking for some frogs! 🐸

When we make an environment suitable for growing plants, this brings in all sorts of life starting at the smallest creatures, creating food sources for bigger wildlife 🐍🦎🦜.

Did you know, there are wildlife nettings available for your gardens that have smaller holes to minimise the quantity of our amazing wildlife that get stuck? Check your garden nettings daily for any stuck animals and minimise excess material making it a tight fit around the chosen plants, even adding in some wire/plastic frames.

I was able to quickly release this tree snake with minimal injuries, thanks to the rapid response from the people who found it!

It's bad enough when you have to clean up your own mess, yet alone an uninvited guest who decided to make themself at home 🏡.

Snakes can be rather inquisitive and curious, which sometimes leads them into places that you don't like them (your place!).

But here's the thing, they work wonders for your Rodent 🐀 and pest control and are great to keep around.

Thankfully the gentlemen was more than happy for me to move this python a little away back into bushland on his property.

What did I catch today?

This beautiful snake is a coastal carpet python (Morelia spilota mcdowelli).

This species is not native to this area in Huntlee, NSW. Turns out, it decided to catch a ride all the way from Mackay, QLD in this person's boat of all places.
