Friday afternoon, 7 week old Turbo's owners came home and found he was very wobbly, had vomited and was not quite right. They called up and brought him straight in where he appeared to be having a seizure. He presented with a high heart rate and temperature.
Blood tests were relatively unremarkable, so our next step was to take x-rays. Upon taking x-rays, there was an obvious, sharp looking metallic object in the intestines.
Once our team had permission from the owner to go ahead with surgery to remove the foreign body, Turbo was taken straight into theatre to undergo lifesaving emergency surgery. When he was opened up, there was a section of his intestines that looked very different to the rest. Once we cut into that section, we found what ended up resembling a fridge magnet. A few smaller pieces of this magnet was found scattered throughout the small and large intestines.
Once it had all been retrieved, Turbo recovered and was doing much better as soon as he woke up. It was still very touch and go as he had not properly stabilised after the surgery and anaesthetic. But he brightened up very much overnight after fluids and some more medication, his temperature and heart rate both stabilised and there was no longer any signs of any neurological conditions or seizures.
Turbo came in again Tuesday for a recheck and he was back to a normal, mischievous puppy again! Hopefully Turbo learnt his lesson and won't eat something he shouldn't ever again!!! Lucky you're cute Turbo!
