It is with a heavy heart that we share the sad news of Chilli Pepper's passing.
Makayla & Chilli are founding members of our Harnessed Bird Social Club and are advocates for all things related to animal welfare.
Chilli was such a sweet little goofball adored by all who met her.

Pictured is Makayla & Chilli at last year's Pet Show held at Melbourne Show Grounds.
As you can see, she bought so much joy to those who met her and will forever be in our hearts.

Rest easy Sweet Girl x Fly high with the angels.

We are not a starter pet. We are not easy or cheap to care for. We get sick and need specialised vet treatment. We form life long bonds and don't want you to separate us from our loved ones. We don't want you to steal our babies and sell them.

Do you see me?
I am here.

Not 1, not 2, not 3, nor 4, 5 or 6 BUT 7! Macaws are home and I can confirm that the workload has now reached its peak.

Now imagine having a friend who runs a bird sanctuary, and said friend calls you in hysterics blubbering that there's a fire and they need help.
Anyone who has a macaw will tell you it's like having a 3 year old child...PERMANENTLY.
So now imagine you are asking your friend to help you with 7x 3 year old children (plus more)... to transport, house, feed & make sure they are not showing any signs of illness from the smoke and heat.
Do you have a friend that you could count on to be there for you in a moment like this?
The person who says yes to running into a fire zone, from 3 hours away, to help me and my feather babies is Mel Vincent from Works For Birds.
There are no words or actions that can describe the appreciation for the help and ongoing support from her!
I know for a fact, that without her, this situation could have ended very, very badly.

I will be forever grateful x

Our newest Macaw, who has been known as Seven since their arrival just over a month ago will be given their official name pending DNA results.
In honour of the help we received from Mel, they will be called either Melissa (Girl) or Vincent (Boy).

Little fluffs, looking confused as usual.

Our rescued ex layer girls are settling back in & boy is Cujo, the Rooster happy to have his 7 wives back!
Cujo stayed with the puppies, kitty's & humans during the evacuations and was so worried, looking around for his girls and cocka- doodling more than usual, it was so sad to see.

A big thank you goes out to Dr Jaclyn Gatt from Bird and Exotic Animal Clinic for looking after our Big Brown Fluffy Butts!

Well there goes the peace & quiet!

Shout out to Kelly Jane for taking care of this crazy bunch for us... I know it was not an easy task and at times life threatening (Mad Dog sends his apologies).
They are back home safe & clearly back to their old antics!

Our beautiful pigeons back safely in their loft!
A massive thank you goes out to Unique Beaks Sanctuary & Chez Guy Small Animal Rescue for taking care of these guys.

We've been working hard since the last evacuation setting up new aviaries in preparation of these guys home coming.
We have adapted our emergency plan by placing birds who are harder to catch quickly into aviaries with a skillion roof rather than pitched, making it easier to reach them when they are feeling less cooperative.
One of the many changes we will be making.

Welcome home my sweet babies, I have missed you!

We still have many birds with carers and are working hard to ensure their future safety & are looking forward to finally having them all home soon x

Hi Guys, It's Jasmine here.
I am sorry I haven't been able to reply to all of your messages, It's still a very active situation here and I am currently preparing for Wednesday as we've been told there will be a spike in fire activity and the wind change will send the fire right back towards us.
I am beyond grateful for the support I've received since the evacuation day on Thursday. It is a day I will never forget and a situation I never want to face again.

I will share the sad news that 1 of our little budgies has passed away and Enzo one of our hybrid galah x corellas is currently receiving treatment for bruising and wounds, he's currently receiving treatment with Bird Vet Melbourne and is expected to recover.

I have so many people to thank but for now Lisa from Kiwi's New Life Bird Rescue and Mel from Works For Birds are providing me with invaluable support. Without them, I don't know how this would have turned out.
Also a massive thank you to BEAC in Williamstown for the emergency transport and treatment of our budgies on Friday/Saturday.

To Adrienne Bennett for setting up the go fund me, thank you so much for recognising that an event like this is going to hit us hard financially.

And to each and everyone one of you who have supported the go fund me, thank you from the bottom of my heart, I know it's a hard time for everyone at the moment.

Thank you for all your kind words of support, In the late hours of the night, I have layed in bed reading your comments and they have given me the will power to get up and carry on, because right now all I really want to do is curl up and cry and pretend none of this is happening.

Keep on, keeping on.
