KPH Agistment, where the sunsets are so beautiful that even the foals take time out from playing to admire them. It’s the best time of the day and relaxing for both humans and horses. We have had a few horses go home after Christmas/New Year’s so we have some space available for Agistment. Wishing all our amazing customers and their horses a very happy new year. We hope 2026 is a year of health, wealth and happiness for you. We thank everyone who has trusted us to care for their horses and ponies in 2025.

We look after all our agistee horses the same as we do our own and are really proud of our horse care. Our aim is to send horses back from a spell not only physically better than when they arrived but, just as importantly, mentally rested and happy. We are always excited to see competition horses leave us and go out within a week to place or win at their particular discipline. It happens time and time again and shows us that what we’re doing is working well.

For retirees who are seeing out their days with us it’s vital for us to find which paddocks they are happiest in and who they like to be in with. Every horse is different so we make sure we cater to individual needs by observing their behaviours. They tell us what they need! We aren’t a one size fits all Agistment because we understand every horse is different.

Another beautiful night at KPH Agistment last night. The sunsets out here are just magical and very relaxing for both humans and horses. We have had a few horses go home after Christmas holidays this week and a few more arrive for a New Year’s break. It always amazes us (and usually the horse owners as well) how quickly horses come off a float and settle in out here.  I guess a lot of it comes down to how many years experience our team have had with horses (combined well over 100 years!) and how calm we are when around them. I read this post below today and it really resonated with me. Our whole philosophy at KPH Agistment is to allow horses to be horses. Where possible, with owners permission, we buddy horses up with another horse or even a herd paddock because horses are social animals. We let them play, and run around and get muddy and relax being a horse. That is why horses are so content when they come to stay with us. Horses don’t ask for the lives that we give them.

In fact, they don’t have any say.

They’re at the mercy of the life humans decide for them.

Their access to socialization with other horses, freedom to move, access to forage… all determined by their caretaker.

The horse’s world exists within the parameters of what people allow for them.

Humans hold the keys to the quality of the life that horses have access to.

We shouldn’t squander that responsibility.

Allow your horse freedom to move.

Allow them to build friendships with other horses.

Let them feel the sun on their back.

Let them get muddy.

Don’t opt for painful equipment, even if they’re being difficult.

Give them the benefit of the doubt and ask yourself WHY they are behaving that way — it isn’t just for no reason.

Offer your horse a full life, make sure it’s a life worth living.

A life with no autonomy is no life at all.

At KPH Agistnent, we recognise that horses aren’t all the same and their feeding requirements differ greatly. Whether they are a pregnant broodmare, a competition gelding, a weanling or even a retiree, we feed the feed the owner wants fed. It’s not just one standard feed for every horse. Our feed room has a massive whiteboard with the names of every horse on the property and what feed they get. This is great for horses who are only here short term while their owners are away because.they don’t need to change feed and risk colic or gut ulcer issues. Yes it is harder for our team than having a single feed solution but the results are worth it. With the owners permission we add Dynavyte, CEN Oil, salt and KER Gold Pellets to each horses feed so we know their skin and their joints are healthy. Horses leave our care looking amazing and we have so much repeat business because the owners are happy. In fact we had 2 horses leave us over the weekend and both owners have already texted us to book in stays for their horses again over Christmas. I love that the horses and ponies out here are so happy to see me (I’m sure it has nothing to do with the trailer of feed buckets with me 😂). Fred (the palomino) is one of our own young geldings and is super quiet which makes him a favourite with our agistees. Horses are herd animals and for the most part enjoy the company of other horses. For horses that will be with us longer term (like the very handsome 11 month old Quarterhorse c**t Waylon who is here to grow up before he becomes a superstar), we try to match them up with other horses for many reasons including to make them feel safe, teach them and give them someone to play with for the younger ones and company for the older ones. Fred, who will be 2 later this year, has had a lot of handling (in fact he can be a serial pest because he loves humans so much he won’t leave us alone) and Waylon has learnt in the space of a month from being in the same paddock that humans are really nice to hang around. He is easy to catch now because he walks straight up to us, just like Fred. We make it our mission to send horses home better than when they arrived at KPH Agistment.

At KPH Agistment, we love this time of the day putting the heavy rugs on all the retirees to protect them from the winter cold. They love a good cuddle and scratch while getting their rugs on and are always grateful for a heavy rug and their night time feed/hay. There’s something special about these old souls and we love pampering them because they deserve it.
