Grand Strzelecki Track

Grand Strzelecki Track 93km of hiking tracks around Tarra Bulga NP and linked to Morwell NP. Paid and free camping. Incorpoation No. A0054706S

Home to the tallest flowering plants and hardwood trees on earth, the majestic Mountain Ash (Eucalyptus Regnans), is the Strzelecki Ranges in South Gippsland, Victoria which are like no other place. The Strzelecki Ranges provide an enormous wealth of biodiversity and scenic values which, until the Grand Strzelecki Track was built, were largely inaccessible to the public except for two beautiful Na

tional Parks; Morwell and Tarra-Bulga. These parks charm visitors with pristine rainforest and tall eucalypt forests second to none and a proliferation of plant and animal life such as the South Gippsland Koala, which is the only genetically intact remnant of the original population remaining in Victoria. The Grand Strzelecki Track links these parks and opens up many natural treasures not seen within the parks including endangered ecosystems, stunning views, waterfalls and much more. If also offers glimpses into the amazing and sometimes tragic settlement and sawmilling history of the Strzelecki Ranges, as well as recent conservation initiatives to preserve our natural and cultural heritage. Located just 2-1/2 hours drive east of Melbourne and accessible from both the Princes and South Gippsland Highways, the Grand Strzelecki Track has something for everyone whatever you level of fitness or experience. Approximately 110 km of track network provides a challenging but rewarding 2 day Park-to-Park experience or 3 moderate to easy loop walks of 1 to 2 days each, radiating from Tarra-Bulga National Park. Alternatively, take 5 to 7 days to walk the complete track and experience the full diversity of scenery these ranges have to offer. Maps can be purchased at www.grandstrzeleckitrack.org.au

Which part of 'Do Not Light Fires', particularly at Rest Areas, do campers not understand.

Then to enter and procure fire burning materials from neighbouring private properties and national park.

This places the local community and national park at fire risk and may lead to closing our rest areas.

CANCELLED

Re-register your interest as it may go ahead next weekend if there is enough interest.

Ferns, mosses, liverworts and lichens.

The Friends of Tarra-Bulga National Park has an activity this Saturday 19th of July, meeting at 9.30am at the Visitor Centre.

The walk will be led by Dr. Simone Louwhoff, who as well as being a member of our committee, is a leading expert on Lichens.

"Ferns, mosses, liverworts and lichens are a stunning feature of the rainforest. We will aim to increase our knowledge of the ferns that dominate the rainforest understory. We will also have a go at identifying some of the many species of mosses and lichens."

Register your spot via ParkConnect (www.parkconnect.vic.gov.au) or RSVP to [email protected]

Registering is the only way to be updated if plans for this activity change.

DIRECTIONAL MARKER POST REINSTATEMENTS

A number of directional marker posts were reported to us as being removed and some found abandoned away from their installed locations along the Mount Tassie Loop.

Some of our dedicated team, namely life member Michael, spent time with others from the Strzelecki Bushwalking Club, to hike the Mount Tassie Loop to identify what signage work needed to be done.

Michael coordinated with our long-term member Richard to prepare the necessary tools and parts for pickup.

Michael went back later at an early start with our newest member Mitchell for half a day to reinstate these marker posts.
